Hi I'm new to this and am hoping I'm posting this question in the right spot.

Just got a Sharp LC-46D64U. I need two inputs to connect a cable and a satellite. However, the TV has only one cable input. I tried a switch. It works but lost digital signal and picture quality is very poor.

Any thoughts, advice, direction would be most appreciated! Thanks.

Assuming your cable box and your satellite reciever are HD capable, both should be connected to your TV with either HDMI or component video and either digital or analog audio, depending on what's available on that particualar TV.

If you're planning on using the TV's tuner for cable (no cable box) then you'd want to use the coaxial input. As far as your satellite connection is concerned, you'd want to do as explained above, assuming the set you're trying to conect these sources to is the primary TV.

Why not use a different connection from your sattelite box such as the HDMI out or the component out.

Even the Cable box (if you have one, could be connected the same way.

Thanks Vin for your advice.

My cable is basic, does not have a cable box. However, it displays some digital channels when it connects to TV directly. My satellite is not HD capable and there's no HDMI out. It seems I need two coaxial inputs from my tv while the tv has only one.

I tried a VHF/UHF combiner also. The picture quality seems ok but the tv fails to receive any digital broadcast.

I think I can connect the cable directly to the coaxial input in the tv to receive some digital broadcast. But I need a device that one side connects to satellite coaxial out and another side connects to HDMI (or something else) in the tv. I don't know if there's such device or the similar.

Thanks again

With satellite you have to use a box. So you do have a box, right?

Keep the cable coaxial going to the TV, so tune in to the cable input to watch cable.

The satellite box has to have other outputs other than the coaxial and you can use them the same way.

You can try the S-vido with red and white for audio.

or the yellow composite out with red and white for audio.

or the component out (red, blue, green) with red and white for audio. (DIGITAL / HD)

Plug any of those 3 outputs to the TV and simply tune in to the respective input on your sharp!

Thank you so much, orion2323! It works now.

Appreciate your help greatly!

All "Input Connections" of your TV like (Composite, SD-Video, Component, HDMI and Firewall) do the same job and can be connected to any TV Cable Box, DVD, VCR players.

Just FYI, if you do want HD channels with your cable, you can just upgrade to an HD cable box (only about $9/mo. for most cable co.s) and even with the basic cable you can get a handful of HD channels.

I have limited basic with Comcast and I get all the local HD channels plus TBSHD, TNTHD, Mojo, etc. It may be worth it if you want to have more HD.
