Wall Mounts..

So before I drywall I do all my wiring.
Then I want to slap my 46" samsung on the wall and hide most of the cables from the DVD'XBOX'etc.

Do I need a surge protector? Where does this go?
I'm really confused about how people properly wire up all this stuff and make it look good at the same time.

You need to look at the back of the TV and the mount. Determine where in relation to the mount and the TV inputs you need to located your wires. You do need an outlet that will be behind the set also. Where is the equipment relative to the TV? Can you run a conduit from the equipment location to the rear of the TV? This would allow you future flexibility. Post a couple of pics of how I did it.

This is in my exercise room. I have the DVD player/satellite receiver located below the TV. I ran a 2" conduit from below to behind the TV.

Behind the TV (the mount I have allows for the TV to be pulled out to access the back). There is a power outlet and a Carlton low voltage box which has the conduit right behind it:

Behind the cabinet. There is a power outlet, another LV box and a CAT5/Coax box.

This is in my bar. I don't have a TV yet, but I prepared for one. You can see the assortment of cable I ran and you may be able to make out the end of a 1" conduit (orange in the top right of the LV box). I did not use conduit for the cables you see, but have the 1" to use in the future it necessary. All these wires connect to the home theater AV closet.

As far as surge protection goes, it is a good idea. Do as I say not as I do:) As you can see I have none. There are little outlet surge protectors that you can buy (Monster?), but I honestly do not know how good they are.
