I bought a UTV off Ebay and I can't figure out the password. I've upgraded hard drive but it didn't reset password. I've tryed codes like 23552355 but nothing allows me to reset password. HELP - my channels are locked down at PG-14. Does anyone know how to reset the password or get rid of it?
Since I have just upgraded hard drive, I can do anything and not loose data. Thanks in advance.

The ebay seller is no help I guess? Not the original owner?
Have you checked with DTV to see if they can "default" the password remotely?
You've tried the easy 0000,1234,4321,1111,2222~9999,etc.?
An interesting question. There must be a way. However, the UTV User Guide that comes with the Sony UTV doesn't outline a "reset" option. DTV might be your first stop for a quick answer.

Interesting predicament...
As far as I know, the password is on the card.
So being it is your card, YOU should know the password.
Calling DTV would get the pass defaulted to 0000...unless, for some reason you can't call Dave

So if your the kid(s) of an account holder... you'll need to fake Mom or Dad's identity... (Naughty,Naughty!) They will find out sooner or later when the UTV starts showing/recording "locked" content.
If you are someone else... you'll probably want to stay off the radar all together.

Smart guys - assuming your are guys. DTV was able to reset the password so it must be on the card. The card actually came with the UTV purchased on Ebay so I wonder if it was ever set on my side.....
But Dave has a good point - it one day my password doesn't work...... check the bill. Thanks for the help.

OK,
What I'd like to know is the "trick" you used to get DTV to re-activate your pre-owned/used UTV access card.
I went to some big hoops a while back trying to avoid getting charged $20 a card (didn't happen but they did give me "service credits" for the $40 I spent on cards)... Because "DTV doesn't activate used cards not belonging to the original owner" was the excuse I got.
I'm a bit envious and shocked. Why couldn't I get your Service Rep.?

I told the rep that my brother inlaw had dropped the equipment off at my house and I wanted to use it. I guess they were ok with it staying in the family, so to speak.
Black Friday I picked up 160Gb HD and upgraded to 110 hrs of prerecorded entertainment. All is well on the video front. :D
