View Full Version : Cars on Blu-ray: Sixaxis Doesn't Work Right for Playback
munchcolo 11-25-07, 08:01 PM I use the Sixaxis for playing DVD’s and Blu-ray’s. The X button is used to pause and resume play, and the D-pad buttons are used for fast forward (D right) and reverse (D left). This works on every DVD and Blu-ray disc I’ve tried. I just bought Cars on Blu-ray, and it doesn’t work that way on this disc. When I’m in play mode, pressing the X button or the D-pad buttons doesn’t do anything. If any of you have Cars on Blu-ray, can you check it out with your Sixaxis and tell me if I’m doing something wrong.

I think several Disney titles are like this, including Ratatouille. There is nothing wrong with your sixaxis, ps3 or the movie, it is just the way it was encoded.

disney movies are different. "start" is your play/pause button. R1 and L1 are your ff/rev. hit triangle to bring up that pop-up menu, highlight a specific command, and it should say next to it what the shortcut is (next to the play/pause icon it says "start," etc...)

Thanks, I understand now. It's just that everything I had played in the PS3 (all non-Disney) used the same commands, so I thought maybe something was wrong with the movie.
^^ I know. It is a bit frustrating. I like the way the controller works on other movies better. You get used to one way and the change seems awkward. It is like I keep hitting that button that I thought paused the movie when I need to take a break or want to stop a scene or whatever reason and I am saying to myself STOP! STOP! while it is not responding. Frustrating and kind of funny. :)
BenjaminG 11-25-07, 10:50 PM It's to do with the Java platform.
Sony Pictures now use it, its the same with Spiderman and a few others I've tried.
I'd gotten quite use to it, very annoying.

bassmonkeee 11-26-07, 07:55 AM The bluetooth DVD remote is only about $20 and works great. If anyone is using their PS3 for primarily movies, it really doesn't make sense to keep using the controller for movie playback, IMHO.
Yeah the SIXAXIS is awful for Blu Ray playback, get the remote you'll be happy you did.
I find the Six Axis controller to be very easy to use with BR because I don't have to look at the buttons. I can use it in the dark. Having more than one button setup to me is no different than having different button setups in different games. I'm sure I'm a minority but I think it's a waste of money to buy a separate remote for BR play back on the PS3.

I agree with you, especially not having to look at the buttons on the remote. I personally have no intention of getting a remote the sixaxis works just fine.

Plus sometimes places have deals where if you buy certain blu-rays you get the remote for free.
munchcolo 11-26-07, 02:51 PM Thanks for all the suggestions. Since I don't watch tons of movies, and since I now know how to operate the Sixaxis for Disney movies, I'll stick with the Sixaxis for now. I hate having lots of remotes laying around.
BTW, Cars looks awesome on Blu-ray. I don't have children at home, but I really love that movie. It's one of those that I enjoy watching again from time to time. My sister-in-law asked my wife what I wanted for Christmas, and I said I wanted the Rat.
