Sorry if this has been posted already does anyone have a thread to the do it your self acoustic panels thread or section of the forum's? Any suggestions out there. I've seen the John Risch's pannels but I'm looking for other options and want to do it cheap. The Master Acoustic Panels thread is 92 pages long who's going to read through all of that?

I recently finished making a whack of panels from OC703, lumber and fabric - it's in my build thread, from about post 187 onwards down the page, starting a little more in-depth around post 202:

I don't get too detailed, but perhaps it might help generate some ideas for you to kick around :)

I felt it was fairly inexpensive - lumber is fairly cheap, the fabric was ~$4.95/yard and the OC703 is ~$96 for a bundle of 12 sheets of 2".

Yup, the Acoustics Thread is, well, pretty darn big!!! (Definitely a must-read)

Wow those are the nicest panels I've seen. Unfortunately as much as I would like to do those I don't have a table saw or the mad skillz you posses to do those in my garage. Looks awsome. What type of screening material did you use?

Another thread worth reading about making panels:

Somewhere, maybe in the thread I linked is discussion of using cheap Ready to Assemble canvas stretcher frames, insulation and fabric to make panels. No sawing required.

Most people use GOM fabric for these panels see Fabricmate.com

Another source from a AVS member: http://sensiblesoundsolutions.com/ He also has the insulation if you can't find locally.

For the fabric, I used Expo Cloth from Dazian Fabrics - however, any acoustically transparent fabric that suits your tastes will do :p

And another source for inspiration on the cheap with little cutting or tools:

and the other various links on his site as well.

I think even without a table saw, you could substitute any sort of molding or other wood you can find at the local home improvement store that is the right width/depth for your project. I know others have used 3/4" primed boards, and connected the corners using glue metal 'L' brackets used for picture frames. The biggest expense is the 703, or mineral wool, or whatever material will be do the absorbing for you. Remember that the stretched fabric will help add to the structural integrity of the panel - lots of staples (and maybe find yourself a good pneumatic or electric staple gun, or else you may end up with forearms like Popeye :D)

I found these. They look fairly easy to build. I think I may use a lighter amount of the polyester batting so it doesnt bulge out as much.

Maybe I'll get some quarter round and see if I can get that beveled look. I'll have to modify the plans a little. I don't really care for the burlap as much I don't want my room looking like a giant potato sack. I did stop by Joann's fabrics store and they also have black speaker cloth.

I'm getting the creative juices flowing a little. I had an other idea where I would build the standard acoustic panel and then create another panel ontop of it with diffrent color material. I'd have to see if I could dye the speaker cloth a diffrent color. It would have a tiered look that probablly wont bode well for the reflective absorbing properties though. Lots of questions and lots of reading to do. Thanks for all the input guys keep them comming. I'm surprised I havent found that many DIY articles out there about making acoustic panels. I would have thought this would be one of the more popular options to do since it's relatively low cost and fairly easy to do.

For bass traps the easiest solution I've found so far is to get a concrete form for $10 and fill it with sand cover both ends. Not sure how this would look as far as asthetics are concerned though. Maybe hide them behind curtains.

Cheap materials I'm considering for covering:
1) Muslim little thicker than burlap $2.99 yard
2) Burlaop diffrent colors they actually have several colors that will work with my color scheme from dark blue, red, brown, black. $2.99yd
3) speaker cloth. $9.99yd

I'm thinking a large acuoustic panel rectangular then a smaller panel out of burlap.
