I have a 24x26x9 converted garage with wood floors. Will have a 7.1 system powered by a Pioneer VSX-94TXH receiver, probably Jamo speakers for the front and surround. I listened to a 15 inch Jamo sub a local dealer had that was a demo and had cosmetic damage. Listed just under 2K, he was going to sell it for under 1K. It really rumbled, didn't seem clear, tight. The dealer suggested a new 10 inch Jamo, 650 watt. I haven't been able to find much on here about Jamo. Didn't really want to go with a 10" anyway.
SVS or HSU seem to be about what I need. I don't want the round svs or the turbo hsu. May even consider two subs. I have my room wired for one or two.
I would like to stay under $1000
What do you think? Any advice would be appreciated.

I would include Elemental Designs in there also if you don't mind their rugged looking finish. $ vs performance ratio can't be beat with them plus their prices include shipping. Especially if you do go with two which I'd recommend, that's a good size room and going with two will help with any nulls to even out frequency response plus add a little headroom.

Hi cguthrie - you should check out craigs sub thread and post this there....

Sorry man, couldn't resist (i read your posts and SUBsequent responses there).
24 x 26 x 9 is a lot of space to fill up - over 5600 cu feet.... is your price range including shipping? I've read a lot about those eD beasts - if cosmetics are not a concern, I'd go with one from them as shipping is included. However, bear in mind that if you're hanging out here - no matter what you get, in a few months you may want to get another one or something else. I'd up the budget if I were for you - as for a room that size is just screaming for a Conquest or those refridgerator size eD A7-900 beasts. I think if you got one of those, that upgrade bug wouldn't bite you for a long time.
If you need to stick to $1000 or less - for that size, maybe check out Emotiva. It's not out yet, but they're coming out with a dual 12" subwoofer combo with a separate amplifier to run both. You can see it here:

It looks rather interesting indeed and may give you more options than single sub and at your budget (though two eD 350's wouldn't be much more either).

If you're thinking about 2 subs, 2 Hsu VTF-2 Mk 3's might fit the bill. As Kpt_Krunch recommend, if you don't mind the size/finish, eD's A5-350 or Epik's Castle might work well - two A5-350's are $1200, shipped, and they're sure to rock that room. Another thought - SVS's PB12 Plus/2's just went on clearance - $1099 for ANY finish. The premium finishes are gorgeous. Of course this works itself out to $1200 with shipping, too. There are lots of great options. For a one-sub setup, eD has the A7-600 (think little brother of the A7-900 everyone's talking about) for $1100 shipped. It has loads of output. The A5-350 or Castle might also be good choices in terms of being able to fill the room. You might start with one, and if the budget allows, add a second later. Look around, and I'm sure you'll find something that will suit your needs.

Since these subs are so big, I would have limited placement options. How hard is it to integrate two subs if they would be either fairly close together in front or separated with one or both behind the listening audience?
