First off, I am not too familiar with anything involved with an antenna, but have been doing some research to help figure out what is going on upstairs in my parents house.

Basically, downstairs my parents have a HD directv box which gives them all the HD channels, except local CBS. For HD CBS my parents use an antenna (cheap $20.00 RCA antenna) and they are able to get it. They hooked up the antenna and it appeared on their channel listing-simple as that.

Now to the situation:
I recently purchased a Samsung LN-T4066F and an RCA off air antenna for HD Channels-I have directv for SD television, but would like to get local HD Channels: Fox, CBS, etc.
Well, my dad and I were setting everything up, just like he did with his set downstairs, and nothing happened. We have everything set up the exact same way, but we are not able to get the HD channels. (in our case, 4-1 is HD FOX and I am not able to get it, when I enter the channel with the remote, it does nothing-ignores input and stays on same channel).
-The antenna does say it can be used for HD channels and all you have to do is plug it in and make sure you have your settings set to off air. So, on my set I have it just like it says to on the box...and nothing! It's extremely frustrating because neither of us can get it to work and have been trying for the past hour or so, and are no further than we where when we first started.

I know this is probably one of the more simpler questions on this forum and apologize, but I have never been this baffled over such an easy task. I know we are just missing something, but don't know what that 'something' is.

Any feedback is GREATLY appreciated

-Thanks!

Is the antenna attached to your D* box or your TV? Your D* box doesn't have an ATSC tuner built in if it's an SD model which means it can't tune OTA digital channels.

If your TV has an ATSC tuner built in, you should be able to attach the antenna directly to it and use it's built in tuner. Check the users manual on how to scan for channels once you have the antenna attached.

Per the PM I got

Hello and thanks for the reply. I will go ahead and try that when I get home from school/work tonight, but I have a question-hopefully it is not too ridiculous to be asking. But, I cannot get the samsung remote to connect with my D* box-would this be causing a problem when I am inputting the HD channels: 4-1, 13-1, etc.? I am currently able to press them, but like I said in the thread, it doesn't do anything on screen it just disappears. I have everything set up correctly, and have tried it both ways: connected through D* box to tv, and then directly to set.

Any feedback is appreciated, and again, will try this when I get home just asking a (simple) question and hopefully you understand me since I honestly have no idea what is going on and how to explain it.

-Thanks

You should be attaching your antenna directly to your TV, do a channel scan then use the Samsung remote to control the TV, the Directv receiver has nothing to do with receiving OTA digital stations in your set up.

Please respond in the thread, not via PM, so that others can use this info and/or join in to help.

Thanks,
