I just received my new OPPO 981HD two days ago. Set up was easy and movies and CD's look and sound great as expected but I got something I did not expect.

I had a Yamaha C920 DVD player before this one and I thought it played movies pretty well. I never realized it was not playing the entire movie.

We watched Lord of the Rings - Return of the King last night, a DVD we have and watched many times. About an hour into the movie I thought I was going crazy. I was seeing scenes in the movie I never saw before. At first I thought it was me until my daughter noticed the same thing.

Example - The skull avalanche we never saw before.

I do not know the technical reasons why the C920 would not play these scenes and the OPPO-981HD does but I can't wait to do through all my DVD's and see what I was missing.

OPPO-981HD - highly recommended.

Do you still have the C920 to do a direct comparison? This is very odd performance. You're sure your not watching the extended version of LotR vs. the theatrical presentation?
