View Full Version : GH2 guitar for 'extra' guitar for Rock Band PS3?
Makomachine 11-26-07, 11:07 AM I'm looking to buy an extra guitar for Rock Band so that we can play all four parts, including bass, when we get together. I know the GH3 controller is incompatible, so there is no need to reply regarding that issue. I'm wondering if there are ANY other guitars I can buy, wired or wireless, that can be used until Rock Band periphels go on sale individually. Please let me know what's compatible and what's not - as I'm having a heck of a time finding that answer...
PJ_Rage 11-26-07, 11:40 AM That's weird that the GH3 one doesn't work for it, because I was told that the GH3 guitar for the 360 works for rock band for the 360. I would have thought they would do the same for the ps3 version?
The wireless guitars on the 360 don't use USB dongles for the wireless. They use the standard 360 wireless, so basically they work like any other controller.
On the PS3, each wireless guitar uses a dongle. The dongle requires "drivers" in the game. Each game uses its own proprietary dongle. And each game only supports their own dongle.
If they had chosen to use bluetooth, the guitars may have been inter-operable. But there is a chance that they could have even borked that by using a different bluetooth profile on each guitar.
But you can't expect one company to support the proprietary wireless of another company's game.
Makomachine 11-26-07, 01:32 PM Understood. Given that, will the GH2 wired controllers work with RB?
I don't believe anyone got a converter for the guitar to work all that well. One company claimed to have an adapter coming for it, but I don't believe the product ever actually came out.
PJ_Rage 11-26-07, 02:41 PM FWIW it appears that Harmonix developed GH2 and Rock Band, but NOT GH3. So I suppose it isn't much surprise that the GH3 controller would not work, but it wouldn't surprise me if the GH2 one worked? After hearing the explanation by Shape, it also wouldn't surprise me if it didn't work though ;)

It would surprise me since they don't even work with the games they were designed for.
Swift Mojo Hand 11-26-07, 05:58 PM EBAY has them.
Also I read you can call Rock Band Tech support and tell them that your guitar is not working. They will take your credit card information and send a replacement guitar out. If you do not return the defective guitar they will bill your credit card. Order it and do not send them back a guitar. The only question that remains is how much will they charge your card for the replacement guitar ?

I believe the final is $125 + $20 for handling.

So in other words you might as well buy the whole game again ;)
logicalnoise 11-27-07, 09:30 AM this has been a "major" issue on the official Rock band boards. Me and all the vets of teh board pretty much don't care but the massive influx of new users are contuinually upset about it. Despite what any uninformed user says it was impossible for rock band to ship on time for ps3 and be fully compatible with the GH3 controller. However Red Octance somewhat admitted that they will work with HMX on working out a solution(wasn't annouced just sort of mentioned by a CS rep).
As for GH2 guitar controllers none work 100%. Nyko was working on a usb adapter but cancelled it because they couldn't get 100% compatability and RO refused to help. Pelican then released a adapter that was basically what Nyko got done before cancelling it. It works to an extent but is too incomplete to be called a real solution.
Rhino5167 11-27-07, 10:45 AM I was looking on Ebay for a guitar....I thought I saw a few auctions go for less than the $125 as stated earlier. It is really weird that we can use the guitars for GH with Rock Band but not vice versa.

Not on PS3, unless something has changed.
