So I have the 705 and I'm wanting to know what the best way to set up my ps3 to get the best sound. Some people say things about pcm, and some say bitstream. I'm a novice to all of this and was wanting to see if you could tell me the way to configure my ps3 and receiver in order to get the best possible sound. Right now when I watch a movie my receiver says THX even though I don't have THX speakers. Can someone please give me some advice?
thanks

Check out this thread and do a search on PS3, if you can't find an answer post your question and somebody will help.

Go to your PS3 BD settings and change the HDMI sound option to Linear PCM, then go to your sound settings and run the automatic settings. It should select a bunch of audio types (2.0 pcm, 5.1 pcm, 7.1 pcm, etc). Now, when you watch a movie, make sure you go to the audio option on the disc and change the audio to PCM. Your receiver will matrix the PCM to all 8 channels if you have a 7.1 system. You can also use the surround button on the remote to go through the different surround options. Pick whichever on sounds best to you ears.

What about plugging the HDMI cable direct to the tv and then using optical sound to my receiver would this be a better option?
