Reason I ask is because I just replaced the fronts. I replaced them with Energys and the center was replaced as well.

I am looking to replace the rear speakers as well with Energy speakers.

Now my sub is an Onkyo 10 inch from the HT-S780 package. Details are 1 x Subwoofer - External - 230 Watt - 25 - 150 Hz - Wired

How big is your room (cu ft)? and what is your budget?
You're getting some pretty nice speakers, and I would think
you would get rid of the Onkyo Sub. Onkyo is not known
for making quality/good subs.....vardo

LOL...well maybe you can help me out with this. What I have is a 10 inch downfiring sub. Now if i look at something beefier will it provide more of a pronounced bass without rumbling the place?

Getting a better subwoofer surely gives more output, but of course you don't have to listen louder. The more important benefit in your case would be much better sound quality. The bass won't be as "boomy" and "rumbly" as with the Onkyo - it will be cleaner, tighter, and more accurate. You'll especially notice the difference with music. If anything, at the same volume as the Onkyo, the bass might in some ways feel LESS overwhelming, because cheap subs often overemphasize certain frequencies and have lots of harmonic distortion. Again, you'll get the option for louder volumes as well, but I think the more accurate bass reproduction and deeper extension are well worth upgrading from a HTIB sub. A better sub will integrate much more seemlessly with the Energy speakers you got, as well. I'd say if you can afford to upgrade, do it - your whole system will thank you :D

thanks, that is what i was looking for. Gonna go with a new sub and new rears and then for the 7.1 portion just keep the onkyo rears i have.

Well maybe something like this will do...link:

http://hsuresearch.com/products/stf-2.html

10" HSU sub, with a 200w amp for about $380 out the door.
Will fill up a room with deep clean bass up to 3000 cu ft.
Best of luck...vardo

Or if size is an issue, you might like something like MartinLogan's Dynamo (http://www.us.martinlogan.com/speaker_intro/dynamo.html). It is a pricier at $600, but if you're squeezed for space, it might be worth it.

You're welcome. You might also consider some bass shakers
as mentioned above. They will vibrate your couch, recliner,
or what ever you sit on watching movies or listening to music.

I always laughed at the thought of putting something like that beneath a couch or recliner. Finally I gave it a try with
4 of these in a couch:

and powering them with this plate amp:

I really adds something to the bass, without disturbing
neighbors if your in a condo or apartment...
I'm in a house, but
I really think my $260 investment in these shakers and
amp are one of the best/cheapest upgrades I've made
to my second (read, smaller home theater). My wife wouldn't be to happy if I installed them under the Lazy
Boy recliners in the main home theater.

Anyways, just a thought. There is a huge thread on shakers sticked at or near the top of this sub/bass section.
Maybe something to think about:D...vardo
