View Full Version : Is 1080@48 too much for a BG808?

I tried out my BG808 with HD-144 and S RGB amps yesterday, and it seemed like 1080@48 was as sharp as 1080@24 on BluRay (Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix). Could that be right? I thought that would be too much for this projector. Is that an i resolution, or is it p? I'm slightly confused, as usual...

How are you running 1080p 24 on the projector. It shouldn't even sync to a signal that (low). And if it did I can't see how you could watch the picture with all the flicker.

Are you sure the BD player wasn't outputting 1080p 60

No, it should be 1080i 24, I think. The flicker is bad. Ugly. Terrible. But only on the computer screens. In movie it's actually quite OK.And 60 I almost don't use at all. I use 50 since I live in Norway (PAL country).

1080i (any flavour) uses signifantly less bandwidth than 1080p. On the machine you have, the neckboards will probably be 75Hz only.

/24 (or /25 in your case) will be pretty awful to watch - either progressive or interlaced.

Not sure why you would use /24 or /25 - digitals can handle them due to the nature of the displays but analog .. ew!

I know some people get down on Barcos a bit, but sheez.. that's just uncalled-for! ;)

I was actually doing some testing on my 808s (120*mega*hz ;)) and the if I turn contrast way down it can resolve alternating vertical lines at 1920x1440 at 72p. So the *electronics* can resolve it; there's enough video chain bandwidth to bang the electron beam on and off quick enough to resolve.

But with the crappy tubes in there now and probably with the Sony tubes regardless I'm certain it can't in practical use - the focus goes away when you turn the contrast up. But the *BANDWIDTH* is there to resolve it. So my guess is that on the 808s switching from 1080p to 1080i shouldn't make a difference, unless somehow that allows the tubes to 'rest' and prevents defocus at higher contrast levels. I was going to post asking about this... at 75mhz maybe it's different; not sure.

than their respective equivelents - ie 1080i48 uses less than 1080P48

1080i48 uses the same as 1080p24

Kai, Mark - its getting a bit old...
