Hello all,
I have a house with an open floor plan. Living room has no walls seperating it from kitchen. That really isn't my problem however. The big problem is I have vaulted ceilings so puting in a projector mount is tough (not impossible but would cost too much)
My question is can you use wall mounts on a side wall, IF you purchase a projector with decent lens shift (like sanyo z5 or panny 100u), and have your image display on the screen decently?
This is hard to get accross so I drew up a floor plan. Hopefully that demonstrates what I am trying to do better. (by the way the back wall is not going to work very well because it is a bit over 20 feet and that is stretching the capability of the the projector (brightness) especially if I want to watch football during the day.)
Please view the attachment and ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

just posted this on the Z2000 thread - my first installation in 2001 required a side mount due to 14' ceilings. Bought PVC pipe and an elbow at Home Depot, painted it a speckle color from a rattle can, ran the wires through and voila. My projector is only about 6 lbs so one length of 20lb fishing line to support the end would have been enough. You can get creative and use something else (was going for a suspension bridge type look).
You can make the PVC pipe as long as you need to to compensate for max lens shift (and the Wife's asthetic approval I suppose!)

all future installations have been rear-wall mount with an inverted Ikea TV wall support:

edited - forgot to say it's a Chief RPA mount, can't do better IMO

Thanks for the reply!
You had no trouble getting the PVC home-made wall mount part to mesh with the Chief RPA Projector Mount?
Can you go into a little detail on how you went about this?

sure thing - the Chief mount is female threaded to accept a 1-1/2" (I think, best to confirm this) NPT.
Metal or PVC pipe almost always comes pre threaded, they go together perfectly.
The power and video cables run right through a 1" hole in the wall, through the pipe, through the hole in the mount and to the connections. Drill one hole at the level you will mount the pipe to the wall (I used a flange, only 2 out of 4 bolts needes since the fishing line took most of the weight), one down near the floor and drop the lines down fishing them out the bottom hole. Route cleanly along the baseboard to the AV rack.

if you only need about 18" (as oppoed to the approx 3 feet I had with the PVC solution) you can go this way (my current setup on a back wall, can swing the Ikea TV mount 90 degrees for side wall)

If you can't mount it on the back wall because of acceptable throw distance, you might consider putting it in a low rise cabinet (like a coffee table) in front of the couch.
