For those who are click-lazy. It's the 40gig PS3($399) with a free game and remote. Crazy good deal.

You can choose the 80GB as well ($499) with the other bonus schwag, not limited to 40GB like the previous poster implied.

I'd recommend Ratchet & Clank: FTOD over uncharted.Aslo one thing I still dont get is how Sony can include a $25 Bluetooth BD remote control but cant include a cheap HDMI cable?

AFAIK, Sony doesn't pack-in the bluetooth remote as you still have to purchase it separately. However, I have often wondered why they don't just included in the package.

They don't include it because costs are already high and not everyone will use the PS3 remote or HDMI.

I'm not using either of them.

I use a HDMI/DVI cable and I'm perfectly OK with using the controller as a remote.

Also, just like they don't pack in component or HDMI cables because not everyone has an HDTV(or even knows how to hook it up correctly) not everyone games online.

I can see why they wouldn't include an HDMI cable, but c'mon a component cable? Throw us a freakin bone here, it would cost next to nothing to include a Y/Pb/Pr on the existing composite cable like MS does with the 360. Also if they did that all the dumb people might figure out how to hook up their PS3 to their TV and get high-def.

I don't care personally as I'm just switching the HDMI cable between my PS3 and 360 as needed since I've run out of ports on my TV and if I ever decide to buy a second cable it's gonna cost $6 on Monoprice. Still the fact that they've done this huge HD marketing push and then won't even include a freakin component cable in the box is a little absurd.

O great deal btw.

I agree with that statement, but it is a little annoying that a machine, touted as being a next generation gaming machine with bult in blu-ray (HD) with all sorts of advanced features has the same cables as a PS2 (cheap RCA). They should have at least included a component cable (maybe with a switch) like the Xbox has.

Agreed that many people do not game on line, and yet they include wifi. My suspicion is that wifi costs more than the cables. (though I am happy that I do not have to buy a wifi adaptor (like the 'other' console)).

Unlike the XBox 1/360 (or GameCube/Wii for that matter), PS2 component cables work just dandy on the PS3. I had a set lying around as well as an HDMI cable. Not that everyone is in my boat, but PS2 component cables aren't exactly uncommon with the HD owning PS2 crowd.

I think it moreso comes down to towing the line between component and HDMI. Obviously HDMI would be preferred for HDCP, but better to just include the lowest common denominator and let people work out the rest. It sucks for some, but better a $9 HDMI cable than a $100 wi-fi adapter for 360 imho.

Absolutely and that is why I am not really 'complaining'. (However, when the PS3 came out, the 'official' SONY HDMI cable was $100). I am sure there are many people who paid that price for the 'HD' experience.

What's sad is that Monster cables and their ilk are still pushing that century mark. Although next to both the 360 and PS3 they have the Datel and Psyclone cables for $39.99 or $49.99 or whatever. MS kind of has the advantage for 360 since if you need the audio out brick you've got to buy their HDMI cable.

I actually bought a Sony HDMI cable, although with credit card points. I think it was $39.99 or so online. Doesn't make a difference but I have a thing for 1st party stuff when it's reasonable. Most of my optical and other cables are monoprice tho.

I realize you are just trying to make a point, but it is not a fair comparison to compare the retail price of the wi-fi adapter and not compare the retail price of a HDMI cable. For example, I only paid $39 for my wi-fi solution on the xbox 360. Monster HDMI cables sell for $75-$150.

Also, a lot of people prefer wired vs. wireless...

Great deal... thanks for the heads up. Also, just picked up these at monoprice:
HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified Cable 28AWG - 6ft w/Ferrite Cores (Gold Plated) - WHITE $6.19

I have no use for component since I use hdmi and the RCA cable is great for carrying around for all around compatiblility like at a hotel for example.

My point is comparing things that (arguably) should be included in the box. In my second post, I brought up Monster cables, but the high end cables aren't really marketed for consoles. Regardless, I've heard very mixed results with 3rd party USB wireless solutions for 360. I've never seen a 3rd party wi-fi adapter in the same aisle as the 360 either, in BB, CC, Fry's, etc.

And with regard to wi-fi, preference (or debate on which is better) aside, you don't really have a choice out of the box with 360. PS3 comes with a wi-fi radio, and a 10' CAT-6 cable.

You are making my point more valid as I have never seen a $6 HDMI cable in those aisles either...

You really need to read my 2nd post being that I already addressed the matter. Comparing apples to apples, if you have a Pro, Arcade, or Halo 360, sure, any HDMI cable will work, *but* if you plan to use HDMI with a separate audio out to your reciever, you have to buy the official MS cable for $50 which comes with the audio out brick. Yeah, the Elite comes with an HDMI cable and the audio out brick, but that's only one SKU.

Bottom line is that so many people gripe about what the 360 comes with that PS3 doesn't (component cables) yet brush it under the rug that you're basically limited (for full compatibility) to proprietary first party solutions for 360 with things like wi-fi, or HDMI.

Oh and I think Fry's has $9.99 or $14.99 HDMI cables. At the very most $19.99. But anyway, back on topic... if I didn't already have a PS3 and Uncharted I'd go for this Wal Mart deal. I was pretty close to buying a 2nd PS3 for the 10 blu-ray movies on Saturday but the Wal Marts near me were out. :(

Normally I wouldn't buy from Walmart because I have issues with how they treat their employees. However I have major issues with how BB and CC treat their customers (I've been screwed one two many times by both), so when I eventually buy a PS3 it'll be from this place. I'm waiting to see what they offer the week before Christmas.

I knew that. Which is why I specifically stated in my post that I was comparing on the basis of games rather movies so that part of your post is irrelevant. ;)

I don't use wireless since it's was so easy for me to avoid it. It makes online play more reliable to use the wired port in lieu of wireless. The money saved can be spent on something else more worthwhile to me. To each their own. :D

I've gotten many cables for less than $10 which just illustrates how much easier it would be for any company to include. Again, I wasn't talking about movie players or movies at all.

What point was that ? What post did you read, certainly not mine.

Where did I brush the 360's shortcomings under the rug ? Sure, it doesn't come with a built-in Hi-Def player. Even though both are capable of playing movies in more than one way right out of the box, I thought I make it clear that I was talking about games only.

It should have been clear from my post that I considered the PS3 to be both a game player as well as a movie player. No where were (in my post(s) at least) was the PS3 relegated to "only movie player" status. In fact I did the opposite of what you claim by purposely ignoring the movie player abilities of the consoles when comparing them. The only reason I even did that was to make it a more "apples to apples" comparison.

Trolling ? That was certainly not my intention. Considering you have likely misinterpreted the content of my previous post(s), I can understand why you might arrive at that conclusion. I have both game systems by the way and like them fine. You have my apologies either way.

For me, wi-fi is incredibly important, for gaming. As is a rechargable controller. I like my Bluetooth headsets too, and the fact it plays blu-ray discs and has an excellent DVD upscaler is just icing.

I had a 360 Elite that I sold off to a friend because I didn't want to throw bad money after good for a wi-fi adapter and another year of Live to keep playing. Not to mention I was kind of bored of the games I had, and what's been coming out for the 360.

For me, wifi remains an optional use feature in gaming (for both consoles) which I might miss if I had a better reason(s) to use it in favor of the alternative. I've also been using rechargable AA batteries for years before I used either console. So, batteries aren't an issue for me as it hasn't me cost anything extra yet to just keep using the batteries I already had. I predominantly use both consoles for games since that's what they were primarily bought for. I use an HD-A2 for most of my movie playing.

Different strokes for different folks. ;)

hey guys- i'm a long time avs'er but a true newbie in the games area-- i'm looking for a system and torn b/t 360 and ps3 - this deal looks great- can someone give me recommendations on the additional games - which would be best for a family (boy 12, girl 8) or direct me to a site for game reviews?
here's the games included in the walmart deal:
Lair
NBA 08 (we're not bb fans - wish it was NHL 08)
Warhawk
Motorstorm
Heavenly Sword
Resistance: Fall of Man
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

I would say for the age of your children Motorstorm and R&C standout as the games that would best suit them.

Uncharted has been getting great reviews but is geared for the slightly older crowd (you may like it). Resistance is a great first person shooter (you see through the characters eyes) but is also for more mature gamer. Warhawk is online only and is a 3rd person shooter/action (you see your character).

I don't have much expertise on any of the other titles. Hope this has helped a little!

Another vote for Motorstorm and Ratchet and Clank. These two games are the most played in my house by me, my 5 year old son (mainly Ratchet) and my 18 year old nephew.

Ratchet is the game me and my son most enjoy playing together. It has great gameplay, graphics, and it is funny too.
Motorstorm I play a lot with my nephew.
And when I am alone Uncharted is the choice.

thanks - i had checked that out too. is that info just for the software itself?? i'm wondering if the issue is with the dance pad itself? could that be? i read elsewhere that there was an adaptor to use (a Pelican PS2/PS3 Adapter- mixed reviews on amazon).
i emailed Konami and this is the reply i got:
We advise caution as we do not support any PlaySation®2 to PLAYSTATION®3 adapters. Cross compatibility issues are handled by the manufacturer of the console. We recommend you consult with Sony.
i called sony and they weren't much help.

SonyStyle PS3 Deal Positives
1) After much research this deal appears completely legit to me. Also, it is a better deal than the Wal-Mart deal when you include the 100 dollars off for getting the decent Sony Visa card, and interest free payments for 12 months (note do NOT miss a payment if you elect this option...fine print).
2) The deal is also eligible on the 80 GB version with the free copy of Motostorm.
3) You can maintain your scruples by not shopping from Wal-Mart (and instead support a different soulless company:)).

SonyStyle PS3 Deal Negative
1) Both the 40GB and 80GB are currently on backorder. There is no indication on when these will come available...

FYI Personal Decision
Went ahead and signed up for the CC and placed the order with SonyStyle to lock it in. This way I get the deal, and they do not cancel it due to high demand or something dumb.

I looked at the fine print on the site, and one can cancel a backorder at anytime prior to the shipment date at no charge. I figure I can hedge my bets this way by placing the order now, and if a better deal comes along b4 Xmas (or they never come available) I can cancel and switch switch.

Final Thoughts DDR, etc.
1) The problem is with the DDR compatibility is that Sony quit manufacturing PS3s with the hardware to play PS2 games to save money. They do have software emulation to run games on the new manufactured PS3s, but I am told this is about 33% effective. Sounds like DDR is one of the 67%
-If you can find one of the 60GB PS3s (about 5 left for sale in the world now I think) it would not have this problem. However, it would cost 500 with no game
-Think about it this way - you can get a PS2 now for under 100 dollars (with multiple accessories). With the savings on the PS3 of over 100 dollars from this deal...just buy a separate system for DDR (e.g. gamestop)

2) I have spent weeks looking for the best PS3 deals. Wish I would have checked you guys out earlier...Thanks a lot!

SonyStyle PS3 Deal Positives
1) Both the 40GB and 80GB are currently on backorder. There is no indication on when these will come available...

QMoney, congrats on your order! I read all the fine print too, and you are right about not being late on any payments! Once I pay this off I will probably cancel the card.

FYI, when I ordered my 40g PS3 a few nights ago the estimated shipping date was 12/3/07, so if you backorder this model your wait shouldn't be too long. My buddy ordered the 80g model and it appears to be backed up a little longer.

Thats all the AVERAGE JOE KNOWS!!! - Seriously, I deal with people on day by day basis with HD receiver and other STB's and guess what? They are using RCA's not even knowing that they have HDMI, DVI or Component - but yap about how their picture quality sucks!

So I see why SONY included RCA only...
