Well, I finally killed my launch day PSP by dropping it for the umpteenth time (It somehow survived a fall onto the treadmill belt and flying into the wall behind me, but a drop off the shelf killed it...go figure ).

Anyway, I think it's just the screen that's cooked. Anyone have any experience sending a PSP to Sony for repairs? Or would I be better served to just upgrade to the Slim model? I have no idea what it might cost to get the screen replaced.

I contacted Sony for replacement parts because I broke the little analog stick on mine putting on a bigger button (I'll never do that again) and they wouldn't sell me any parts. I had to buy a new one. The sad thing is how easy it would be to fix it, if they offered parts to the consumer. It's not like the thing is under warranty anymore anyway. As for yours, I think it's not worth replacing the screen and you should just bite the bullet and get a new one. The labor costs alone are retarded on electronics repair.

Yeah, good point on the labor costs. Maybe Santa will bring me one.

At only 169 for a PSP-2000 upgrading would be a better choice.

Parts are available for these on ebay. Had one friend replace his broken screen in fact. Not only ebay, but you'd be surprised what you'll find with a google search.

Definitely for the analog nub, its a fairly easy replacement for end users to do if your PSP is out of warranty; you'll have to break some sticker seal which I think was covering one of the screwholes if I recall correctly). I've purchased replacement analog assemblies from richspsxparts.com for I about $20 (plus they had easy to follow directions at their website). You can probably find it cheaper as I didn't really look very hard when I replaced mine.
