View Full Version : Is this an uprgade ?
phussey 11-27-07, 04:43 PM I have a Mits 3000 which i am very happy with.I was thinking of getting a IF7210 at a great price just to see what difference the DC3 chip produces.I have a light controlled room 18 x 14 and watch 80% SD dvd's and 20% HD dvd's.I use the Toshiba Xa2.The projector is ceiling mounted.I am aware of the noise level of the Infocus ,I know because I used to own a 4805.Will I see a noticeable improvement in picture quality ? My screen is 120" diagonal.
Thanks
I know the 3000 is highly regarded. I have a 7210 and another good DC2 720p pj. The difference is there but little. Certainly it isn't worth the trouble of selling the current one, and buying and installing another one, at least to me. Since you are happy with the 3000, unless you know that the 7210 will address an issue you want to resolve, I'd say wait for 1080p to come down for a real upgrade.
phussey 11-27-07, 08:28 PM Notti thats just what I wanted to hear. Thanks very much.
Yes we all get curious and want to look into "options" sometimes, don't we? But if you find the one you are happy with, stay away from the display devices forum till your spouce, no, the 3000, falls apart. From all I read, it's a winner.
phussey 11-28-07, 12:57 AM Notti let me ask you this question as you have seen both the DC2 and DC3 together.I have considered waiting to buy a 1080P model(Sanyo Z2000)but as I will never be someone who buys mostly HD DVD 's for their viewing, but instead watches upconverted SD dvd's would the 7210 with the Faroudja chip not be better for my purpose and viewing habits.
The Faroudja in the 7210 would do a better job at rendering SD dvd's than the video processor in a budget 1080P ? Would it not ?
Thanks

One man's upgrade is another's misery.
That out of the way, your move sounds more lateral than up. I'd demand an upgrade to 'up' on several factors before pulling the trigger. Brightness, resolution, CR, features, color processing and ease of use for starters. Still your call.
gwlaw99 11-28-07, 10:21 AM I don't think it would be a big enough upgrade. Wait for 1080p prices to fall.
phussey,
You shouldn’t be back here. Anyway, how capable is the 3000 as far as video processing goes? Yes the 7210 is good if that’s your concern. But then, you can just buy a good DVD player and send a progressive signal rather than replacing your pj. It does make a difference if your pj’s processor is not great. I heard a lot of great things about the DVD players with the reon chip for SD playback. There are 3 players with it that I’m aware of. Toshiba XA2 (HD), Samsung 1200 (BR), and another Samsung (SD). Samsungs seem to have more issues though. I bought a used 1200, and it’s a good player if you can get a good unit. I can get a pixel-mapped image from the D1 for comparison, and the 1200 is good. I read somebody just scored an open box 1200 for less than $200.
Then there’s the good old Oppo, but some displays have the macroblocking issue with the faroudja. I don’t know how it is with the 3000. Also if you can find the players above cheap, they play HD for not much more.
Toshiba’s HD-DVD players, even the cheap ones, seem to be very capable players. I saw the screen shots of the same scene from the D1 and, I believe, the X2, and the X2 image was better. Screen shots don’t do justice, but the owner (I believe it was Alex Solomon) also said the X2 was better. That says a lot, as the D1 is no joke. Wasn’t the X2 sold for $99 a few weeks back? If you look through Alex’s posts, you should be able to see them. This is probably more than a year ago though.
If you have $1000 for the 7210 though, HTPC is another route and will probably beat them all. So, still “no” vote for the 7210.
phussey 11-29-07, 12:08 AM Thanks Notti for the input.Im gonna hold my horses till I see a 1080P I like.

Yep. I forgot to mention price. He who waits WINS in the digital age. We could possibly see 1080p <$1000 this time next year. I already saw LCD 1080p 42" flat panel (magnavox) selling for under $700. PJs should follow suit.
