Platforms: PC, PS3, XB360
Let's hope whoever's doing the port to PS3 does not drop the ball.
Deus Ex is still an all-time classic. I'll put it up right there with Half-Life.
Deus Ex 2 sucked hard though...IMO.
Megalith 11-27-07, 06:19 PM Damn, Deus Ex 2 felt like decades ago.
bkchurch 11-27-07, 06:59 PM I saw it last night and I'd be kicked off these boards if I described to you the things I did afterwards. Deus Ex is one of my all time favorite games, it was simply immaculate. I wish Invisible War got the respect it deserves though. I loved Deus Ex and was bummed when the interface got gimped in the second one just like everybody else but if people stopped complaining for a moment there's a great game there to be enjoyed.
Damonb10 11-27-07, 08:38 PM I only played the first Deus Ex and absolutely LOVED it. It was a perfect game for me. I hope this new one is great.
eddiebrock 11-28-07, 09:39 AM I really liked the first Deus Ex game on the PC. I played part 2 at a friend's house and it was terrible and too dumbed down for consoles. Even though I have a PS3 I'd like to see the focus of the game made for the PC and then ported to consoles.
JackBau3r 11-28-07, 09:50 AM I couldn't get into the Dues Ex, but then again I played it on PS2. Graphics were god awful, framerate dropped like an 8 year old's testicle and the gameplay was average at best. Oh well. Different strokes.

A great game for second graders maybe. That game was a prime example of corporate meddling and developing games for the lowest common denominator.

What made it so bad? It had a great story and played alot like the first one, it just had a dumbed down interface and an annoying universal ammo system. I'm not saying it was as good as the first because it sure as hell wasn't but I felt like too many people sat down with it, noticed they had dumbed down the interface, and then spent their whole time bitching about it instead of trying to enjoy the game.
NoThru22 11-28-07, 04:16 PM Every single problem had the same three ways to get in: the front door, hacking, or the vent. But why even bother with the others when there was always the vent in some inconspicuous (easy to find) place. The difficulty was way dialed down. The augmentation system was way too easy to manipulate. Trust me, the interface was the least of the things dumbed down from the first game.

Agree to disagree I suppose. Like I said I completely agree that the first was a masterpiece and the second simply wasn't but that didn't stop me from enjoying the second.
WJonathan 11-28-07, 08:57 PM If that were a strip show, it would have been like seeing the girl's toenail before fading to black...Worst..Trailer...Ever.
I actually just finished Deus Ex 2 on the PC, and couldn't uninstall it quick enough. Unlike the first game which started slowly and grew on me, I loved DE 2 right away and grew to hate it. Great graphics, good character interactions, and I loved the opening levels of Tarsus and Seattle. By the end, I was sick of...
1. the drab, colorless "earth-tone" art style in every single environment
2. tiny worlds with long load times and restricted pathways
3. the universal ammo which wasn't balanced well (I was always short of something, either health or ammo)
4. the gimped non-lethal weapons
5. four equally awful endings, and the idiotic spy-thriller script where every major player secretly works for another faction. After a few surprises, who cares?
6. the not-so-subtle pro-marxist and anti-western culture themes constantly being hammered on. Yeah, I get it, you guys are leftist, socialist thinkers...just like every other friggin' game designer out there.
That said, I'll probably end up playing DE 3. Who is exactly is doing it though? I though Ion Storm disbanded and Spector left to work for Disney?
Tru-blu 11-28-07, 09:06 PM Deus Ex :)
Deus Ex 2 :(
Deus Ex 3 ?
Anyway, the official website went up recently.

All I know is, if you've played the original on your PC and didn't get stoked at the 39 second mark in the trailer, you have no soul for gaming!
Hell, even seeing the Deus Ex font made me reminisce. Hella cool game for those who remember it fondly, like I do. :)
