Ok...so I've got the new Samsung LED DLP set up. HD channels are f-ing stunning.

Question:

The SD channels look ok and I knew they wouldn't be anything close to the HD channels. How can I optimize the SD channels on my HDTV?

I've got my time warner HD cable box hooked up with component cables. Would an HDMI cable clear up the SD channels a little? What about an S-video cable?

Or do I need to reset the cable box to have it down scale to 480i when the SD channels come on?

Any tips are appreciated.

horn1,
Other than watching the SD in its original aspect ratio of 4:3, I am afraid there is not much else to do to improve the situation. You can try the HDMI cable and for certain set-ups it may improve the look over component but I wouldn't bet on it before you try it. Certainly S-Video will not be an improvement over component.

You didn't mention which STB you have but you should play with the resolution settings in the menu and see what looks best. See if 1080i or 720p looks better for the HD channels. Generally leave it with the 480i setting on the menu for the SD (Once setup, the box should automatically switch when going from SD to HD sources and vice-versa). Sometimes with some set-ups the SD channels do look better in 480p, so it is worth seeing how it looks with your equipment.

Have fun!
