I'm about to buy either the Sammmy LNT 4661F or the 46 inch Sharp Aquos from costco. I will also get Direct TV probably HD package. In the setup will be a DVD player and probably DVD recorder for recording SD content, and a HDD based recorder.

Can anyone recommend a good HDMI cable and where to get it without a ripoff? And how many might I need? Just too many choices over-whelming me.

What else do I need to get that I'm not thinking of?

Thanks in advance.

Just go to www.monoprice.com to get HDMI cables. DO NOT GET A MONSTER BRAND HDMI CABLE! They are no better than anything you will get on monoprice, don't believe the hype! As far as a TV, get the Samsung just because it has 3 HDMI ports and the Sammy only has 2, and you want to hook up so many components to the tv. I am with Directv, so you will definitely want one for the receiver for HD. For the other components, get another 2 for the DVD player and recorder. You will also need it appears some component or optical/co-axial cables to hook up the rest of your equipment. If you ever decide to get an a/v receiver for a home theatre hook-up, you would want one with an HDMI port too, so that is another thing you may want to think of. No matter whatever else you do, go to www.monoprice.com for your HDMI cables. They are much, much cheaper than Monster! Good luck!

What about all the 1.2b, 1.3 stuff? Should this plane Jane HDMI cable do the trick?

This cable will be perfect for you. I use two of these with my setup and have never had a problem.

Ditto mastacow53, I have them too and never have had an issue or any lower quality from them......

What is the physical difference between a 1.2 and 1.3 HDMI cable? Monoprice states that a 1.2 cable will not support 1.3 features. Is the cable wired differently? Or is it just a matter of construction quality (allowing less noise, etc.) Just curious.
