Hello,

One of our projector in our school's auditorium has been broken for a while, now I finally got the approval to replace it. I was looking at the high end home theater projector , like Sim2 or Sony VPL-VW100, but I am not sure if they are suitable for auditorium setup, and it is going to be a wall-mounted as well.

Basically from the point of project to the screen, it's about 30feet.
We have another projector - it is Sanyo PLC-EF60A. Somehow when it is projected to the screen, it is small, and unable to fill up the screen. ( I tried zoom all the way, but still small. It is about 32 ft away, and on top in the booth)

Anyway, my question is, how come for auditorium level, that I need something like Sanyos, which has 5800 ANSI..why do I need that high of ANSI for auditorium room? can't I just use something like the sony or other good home theater projector ?

Primary use for the projector - power point & DVD.

Can someone suggest me a good projector for the auditorium ? thanks ! :)

How big is the screen and what are the ambient light conditions?
More than likely, a home theater projector isn't going to be suitable for this type of application.l

I don't really know how big is the screen... but the auditorium kind ...pretty big i'd say :P
ambient light condition is low.
So home theater projector is no good eh.. that leaves me with little options then..

You're just not going to get the lumens out of a home theater projector to shoot 30' on to a decent size screen.
You have tons of options, they just aren't $1000-$5000 home theater projectors.

You need to know the screen size, aspect ratio, the throw distance, the sources and the lighting to find a good match.

the best you could do is a 3000-5000 lumen LCD unit

As others stated, HT projectors are meant for smaller screens (6-14' wide max). Usually auditoriums are more like 20-30' wide, so simply enough the HT units don't have the horsepower behind them. Add in some ambient light, and you really are not going to be able to make it work.

Despite the fact that an HT projector will always put out a better image than most light cannons, you really don't have much of a choice I'm afraid.

Ahh.. our backup projector is at 5500 ANSI, so I guess I have to find something thats around that ballpark, but anyone got experience with any good "light cannons " ?
