Everyonce in awhile (seems to always happen during a very important silent part of a movie) the refrigerator starts to make noice. it sounds as though two things are banging up against each other. I was thinking about taking it apart and insulating the coils or what ever is making the noise, but I'm not sure what to do it with, w/o causing a fire saftey issue.

sjujohn,
I have had a heating and air course in school. This noise is normal coming from the fridge. You can defrost it and this will help.

So it would be a bad idea to try and wrap it in an insulation material like with headers on a car?

There is a company called Super Soundproofing Co. that makes some kits that might fit your refrigerator.

Is the fridge free-standing? I have a mini-fridge in a cutout in my bar. I could hear the compressor so I lined the back of the cutout with linacoustic, and it cut the noise down to barely heard.
