Trying to get a fix on this buzz issue. I have more than excellent hearing and if I buy the Kuro 5080HD or the 5010FD and it has this sound I will be more than a little upset. The ambient noise in the retailer is too high to make an educated decision on this issue
Of the owners that have the buzz can you answer the following questions:
Can you estimate how loud the sound is at your viewing position without any sound coming from the Plasma’s speaker or your main surround system? If you can relate in decibels that would be helpful.
I know when I am up close to my current plasma you can hear what could be described, as a buzz or swirling sound but this cannot be heard from a 7’ viewing distance. What is the character of the noise you hear?
What part of the country do you live in?
Are you using any type of power regulation on the Kuro and what other equipment is on the same circuit as your plasma? Do you have anything along the lines as a big non-current limiting amplifier?
Could there be components that are “out of tolerance” in the set – most likely a capacitor of some sort.
I would really like to get to the bottom of this issue before buying. I think the picture is great but if folks can really here a buzz from 10 to 12 feet away and this is considered “normal” then it will not be the correct display for me and I will just keep what I have – a display that does not make that type of noise.
