Hello everybody,

First post... be gentle. I work at a video store in OK and we recently got both Blu-ray and HD DVD. I need some help with how to advertise though. I own an HD-A2 and I'm on these forums for at least an hour a day so I know my stuff but I thought it would be helpful to get all of your opinions.

The Story: The head honcho is completely clueless. She made up signs for all the stores saying, "Blu-ray Now Available" with both the BD and HD signs below it, as though they were both Blu-ray? I don't know. She also added the new category to add the new movies in: BlueRay. That's it. Spelled wrong and no HD... we have to write HD DVD in the notes. So I've been frustrated.

So I want to take over this little project so I can educate the public (and our employees) properly. So I'm asking these questions:

1. What should the sign that goes above both formats say?
2. We currently are pricing them at $2.95 or 2 for $5.00 for 2 days. Does this seem reasonable?
3. I want to make a pamphet explaining both formats, and one for each seperately. What should I include in these.
4. Any other comments.

Thanks to everyone in advance.

1. Now Renting: HiDef!
Or something similar.

2.Pricing sounds reasonable to me. Hollywood Video is the only place near me that has HD and they want 5.99 for 5 days

3. Make sure you point out that customers need the correct player.

You really don't want help with advertising, you want information on point of sale signage and in store customer information.

Here's how some other stores do it.

How about "High Definition Movies" - that's what Wal-Mart uses. If there's enough room you could put "HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc" under that.

2. We currently are pricing them at $2.95 or 2 for $5.00 for 2 days. Does this seem reasonable?

Sounds good to me, but it's up to you.

3. I want to make a pamphet explaining both formats, and one for each seperately. What should I include in these.

Make sure you indicate that these are only playable in the proper players, and you'll want to explain that upconverting players won't play them. Showing the logos and telling them to look for them on the players might help - say that some players have HD in the name, but if you don't see this logo it's not the right player. List some of the more popular players for each format, including the game consoles of course. There's so much to explain, but that would be a start.

4. Any other comments.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone. You all had great suggestions I'll definitely be using. Thanks for the link Kosty, it had some great stuff I'll be referencing when I make my pamphlet.

Thanks again, and Long Live High Definition!:)
