From what I remember of the last time it was in HD.....

It was a pixelated mess that somehow didn't show much skin. Lots of quick pans and cutaways when anything good was going to be shown.

Now a uncensored Bluray disk I would get excited about.

I have last years show on DVHS. The CBS version was a pixelated mess. Oddly, the CW HD version has much better and that's the one I kept.

It did suffer from audio drops (both versions) and glitch here and there. Skin was there to be seen :)

A couple of years ago both CBS and UPN broadcasted it. Our CBS station forgot to turn off their completely useless subchannel as they normally do for football games and other video-source programming. The result was an unwatchable scrambled mess of blocks whenever a model so much as blinked at the camera. Apparently Victoria Secret builds their models out of Legos these days.

Our UPN station had just recently upgraded to HD and hadn't gotten around to reducing the HD bandwidth to ruin the picture quality which seems to be some kind of tradition in this town. When UPN reran the VS show we finally got to see it in near perfect 1080i HD with no noticeable blocking.

I'm sure they'll never let that happen again.

Last year's special sucked. The 2005 show was much, much better. Wife constantly asks me why it is still on the Tivo almost 2 years later.Nothing will ever again top the 1st televised show, in 2001 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0300611/). Wasn't in True-HD yet but it was in super-high quality SD. And it actually was a real show, with backstage interviews with all the models, plus "up-close and personal" backstories on their lives... AND NO STROBE LIGHTS!!! Cameras were essentially stationary (other than the tracking camera that followed alongside the models as they walked the runway) and placed at perfect locations and angles.

Now THIS was a show! And of course the tide of protests and complaints was amazing, hence why every show thereafter has been worse and worse... in an attempt to NOT repeat the soft-porn aura of that wonderful first show.

I watched it on WFAA-DT, which at the time was upconverting to 1080i (today's it's standard ABC-DT 720p).

Spectacular. The models were all gorgeous. And thankfully it's preserved forever on D-VHS, never to be lost with a swapped DVR.

Tyra's runway walk was "red hot" (literally, red lights) legendary, and Adriana Lima's opening all-time-best ad could be on continuous loop and I wouldn't mind. Mary J. Blige performed "Family Affair" in a white ermine fur coat, and the song was played like an anthem throughout the entire show (so that the models backstage could move to the rhythm while they went through hair and makeup and costume). Gisele also had a fantastic ad, a la "Flashdance".

Starred Tyra Banks, Molly Simms, Adriana Lima, Gisele Bunchen, Eva Herzigova (at her absolute prime, especially in her red Christmas lingerie outfit... all blushing and proud), Heidi Klum, Karolina Kurkova, Bridget Hall, Daniela Pestova, Fernanda Tavares, Ines Rivero, Allesandra Ambrosio, AND MORE!

Andrea Bocelli sings, Rupert Everett hosts.

Most memorable probably, was Molly Simms' historic gorgeous smile and "blow a kiss to the camera" move at the end of her runway bit, just before she turned around to walk back. Photographically this was absolutely perfect and this particular runway stunt has been copied by others and parodied numerous times since then. It was even used to end the show after the final credits which were rolled over replays of the "show highlights"... of which this one was THE highlight, and shown last.

The final walk (with all models wearing their Angel wings) and grand finale was spectacular, with confetti snow and Angels suspended from wires swinging all around the place. With all the models on stage at once, close-up panning so that you got one more fabulous look at fabulous them... well this was a show for the ages.

Never again will we ever see one like this, even though they're now in True-HD. The suits and censors have had their way with it. Last year's show wasn't even worth "excerpting" to D-VHS.

I'll second that. 2006 sucked. Justin Timberlake and Bagpipes. Gaaaak!

2005 with Chris Botti and Seal providing a touch of class and Ricky Martin a touch of raunch was much better.

At least Seal is back this year (BTW, anyone that signs Seal should have a contract requirement that his wife has to appear on stage in lingerie in his shows. :D ).

This show looks and sounds good, though heavy post-production. Shooting it in 24p definitely helps with keep the strobe lights under control. The production values and lighting design are top notch as usual, definitely dig Hamish's directing. Not feeling Spice Girls so much.

If I were in charge of Victoria's Secret, they'd have a keg and leaf blower attached to their backs and they'd be pushing a lawnmower down the runway. If they could make women think lawn work was sexy, guys would be buying Victoria's Secret branded anything and probably pull them out of their sales slump. :)

This thread is worthless because the show was worthless. The women walked too fast and the camera action jumped around so much that each model was gone before you could even focus your eyes. I saw a Maimi swinsuit show on Ultra Channel that was much sexier. The models walked slow and the camera focused on each model all the way down the runway. No wings or glitz. Just small bathing suits and beautiful women. The Victoria Secrets Shows smacked of a Vegas production.

You are confused as to the purpose and goal of the VS show. VS brand is not trying to out soft-porn other runway shows. If I want to see small bikinis in ultra high def with virtually no scene shifts I can go to a beach. I can watch the skanky soft core shows on cable.

VS presents some spectacular looking ladies in beautiful lingerie presented in a high energy audio-visual show. It is not designed to give you time to drool over the ladies crotch. It is an attempt to highlight female beauty in a classy setting.

If I want porn it is freely available. If I want to see trashy skanks they are everywhere. Adriana Lima is a world class beauty worthy of looking at if she was wrapped in a burlap sack.

I have the last 3 years recorded in HD, and this year was just as terrible in terms of blocking as the previous years. Much of this is due to my local station, but the quick pans and strobe lights do not help. As others have said, it usually looks a little better when the CW reruns it. All in all, I rank (the ones I've seen in HD) 2005>2006>2007. Also, maybe it's time for Heidi Klum to gracefully exit this scene.

My local CBS affiliate converts the 1080i signal down to 720p. Apparently something is going terribly wrong during this process because most of the CBS stuff in Lexington looks horrible. Quick moves will cause the images to go blurry and the blocking was very bad during the show. I also see these issues during football games as well.

Sorry to hear your feed had problems. Except for one instance where there was a bit of pixelization when one of the models did a quick turn at the end of the runway, my feed was pretty good. But it's really hit-or-miss with some of these local stations. NBC is usually the worst out of the "big four" networks in my area when it comes to PQ issues.

I couldn't agree more. Typical f****ed up "morality" in the Yew Ess Aye! Parade near-naked beautiful women up and down a runway, doing some sort of grotesque chicken strut, and then dance the camera all over them so fast you don't get to appreciate their bodies or their clothing (what there is of it--and presumably the reason for this flesh-fest). Wanting to have a bit more time to appreciate semi-nude world class models does not make one a porn monger.

I watched five minutes of this (surely) Vegas-inspired nonsense before turning it off--for the very reason listed by jerryez above. Vicotria's Secret is the essence of hypocrisy. Let's see, what's the expression I'm looking for? Oh yes, "c... tease!"

Fascinating analysis. So the Victoria Secret show is really an exhibition of conservative sexual morality at work in the uptight USA. It appears Christian fundamentalists are responsible for this lingerie heresy. We'd have stone cold nakedness prancing up and down the catwalk if it wasn't for Fox News and their ilk.

Why yes, I think you could definitely say Christian fundamentalism (or better yet, embedded Puritanism) is responsible for this kind of travesty. Someone once wrote that American males want their women to be both Madonna (hypersexual pop star) and Madonna (Mom O' Christ). Kathy Ireland, Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, when asked what she thought about while she was flaunting her considerable endowments before the camera said, "I'm usually thinking about Chocolate Chip Cookies! Tee Hee."

Please excuse me while I throw up.

Americans (who clearly prefer simulated snuff films like "CSI," "Dexter," etc. to sex) like to be "naughty" but not too naughty. As for "sex," the hot female dectectives do show a bit of yummy cleavage when they're bending over a bloody corpse.

In the Victoria's Secret Spectacular:

The camera work was a disgrace
The longest shots were on the face
But not the smutty bits below
The blinking reason for the show!

The looks on the faces of the actors in the front rows (Piven, Doogie) were priceless. PQ wise it was better than last year's show. Still a fair amount of blocking but it wasn't obnoxious like last year. The strobes didn't kill it nearly as much.

There needs to be an investigation into what's going on in Brazil. I'm convinced that there's a clandestine genetics lab cranking out supermodels down there. Just look at these photos and try to tell me I'm full of it.

Nice screens, Mac. Nice, indeed. Adriana (my favorite), Ale, and Izabel are all national treasures IMO and there are about a dozen or more other scorching-hot Brazilian models out there, so something good's going on in their gene pool. :D

That cutie Miranda's a stunner, too. The Aussie accent makes her even cuter.

Alessandra is my personal favorite. I prefer that long narrow face to the more round faces of Adriana and Miranda.

But the I still say that the high point of all these VS shows was in 2005 when Izabel had all the sleigh bells sewn to her butt. The backstage shot where she shakes her butt to make all the bells ring and then points at her butt and says, "Isn't that cute?" was classic.

As to the show itself, I agree with the above posters that with all the quick MTV-style cuts, you don't have an opportunity to properly ogle those supermodels. What on earth do they think people tune into this thing for? It's certainly not to see ridiculously over-the-top and overpriced lingerie.

The show as they currently direct it is pretty much worthless, to me at least. I won't watch it again until they change the direction back to the way it was that first year. Those girls' bodies that they've worked so hard on deserve better, by golly.

That's the kind of playful personality that makes many of those South American girls so great. It's not just their physical beauty, but their charisma, as well. You always see Adriana or Ale playing to the camera or audience during their catwalks whereas a lot of other models just strut down the runway stone-faced.

I agree with that wholeheartedly, but I think the cinematography and editing of the show the past couple years has been dictated to a large degree by CBS following that brief "uproar" over the scandalous 2005 broadcast (though frankly, it draws complaints from the puritans every year), IIRC. I don't think I'm the only one who's noticed that both last year's telecast and this year's has shown much less of the models' butts and tends to focus more on their upper bodies. A lot of the girls who were clearly wearing thongs or V-strings had little skirt-like coverings or other pieces of clothing over the backside. If any of them weren't, the camera pretty much never focused on the girl after she turned around to walk away.

That, to me, is scandalous. :p

At the very least, they should put out an "unedited, uncensored" version on the 'Net for all of us who admire the divine bodies of beautiful women and aren't scared of admitting it.

I was watching an episode of Anthony Bourdain No Reservations, and he went on this trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil. A couple of his tour guides, especially one of them, were surprisingly pretty. Not the kind of "hot" needed to pose on the VS runway, but remarkably hittable nonetheless.

Gawd those pics are just awful awful HD. The sad thing is I bet my recording is worse.

They aren't full HD. They're heavily compressed jpeg files because that's the biggest files that the free hosting sites will accept.

That being said, my local multicasts and as others have already mentioned there's so much motion and strobes that the PQ is not very good to begin with.

The show is being rebroadcast on CW in HD 9pm EST.

The PQ for me on WPIX-DT (CW-HD) is worse then when it was on WCBS-DT (CBS-HD). I have more macroblocking on CW.

The PQ of those pics is terrible...agreed. My DVHS copy looks great with little blocking.

It's not that easy to get stills from 1080i since most tuners don't deinterlace when you make caps. The only way to get real clean stills is to have little camera and object movement.

I'd like to know at what bitrate WPIX-DT transmits. Every time the Mets played on Ch. 11 this past year it was nothing but macroblocking, whereas it happened far less on SNY.

The PQ looked fairly good OTA on WJZY in Charlotte NC. Some motion blur and some macroblocking here and there, but I thought it was quite watchable. I didn't see the CBS presentation so I can't compare it. WYCW in Asheville NC showed it in upconverted SD, at least at the beginning before I switched to WJZY, and in a couple of spot-checks a bit later on.

Glorious 17.5+ Mbit/s HD on KASW here in Phoenix. PQ was noticeably better than KPHO's 15.25Mbit/s broadcast.

If you want some great screenshots. Go to yahoo, under the entertainment section they have a ton of very high quality screen shots in a slideshow format. Each picture is rather large too. And yahoo is work friendly. :)
