View Full Version : 2 columns of "off" pixels on my Panasonic 50ph10uk..!

So, my xbox 360 is connected to the display by component and I notice the two farthest pixels on the right side of the display are off. Aspect ratio/position changes don't help, even when the system is plugged in by composite. This isn't normal, is it? Are they off because of image burn in? Also, another 1 pixel column on the left side is the same.
This is pretty minute and I didn't notice it until I inspected the display to make sure everything is lit up. Anyone know??
Thanks

edit:
hmm...built in screensaver function of the display where a white bar scrolls from left to right still didn't turn on the farthest pixel column. I guess they will always be off. Not too big of a deal. On with the break in DVD...

Anyone know of this problem? It's not a big deal, but if there's a fix I'd love to know about it. The left side of the display is just fine after another look.

Hi Suhaib,

Maybe try PC connection and connect to PC? See if it all pixels in your display shows up. If it's off a little use the Position button on your remote. If this works then we know the xBox360 via Component might be the cultprit..

By the way, nice TV you got there.:D

Nah, even with PC connection(1366x768) & with all position/aspect changes it's the same thing. Above all though, those pixels fail to light up when the screen saver mode with the scrolling white bar is going, and that's coming from the set itself. It's not noticeable, though, but I was worried I burned them out
Definitely not something worth returning the thing for me. On with the games!
PS. your posted pictures influenced my decision to go with this set :)

edit:
BTW, I'm using a good VGA cable connected to a fairly crappy one and I notice some noise in the picture. Is it worth getting the DVI blade or will a good quality VGA cable fix this?

Hmm.. I would try to get the TV replaced. That is definitely the defect. But like you said if it does not really matter to you and if it's much hassle of repacking the TV I guess it's alright.

IIRC, the xbox360 has VGA and Component Out, right? If you will be doing a lot of console gaming and a little bit of PC use then I would say having a DVI blade is not crucial. But if you will be viewing a lot of HD videos, HD-DVD/Blu-Ray Movies, and *some* internet browsing then I would definitely say get the DVI blade and the DVI cable.

The benefits of using DVI compare to VGA are:

- Slight red tint will be removed/ or reduced to bare minimal
- Razor sharp clean crystal crunchy texts, and perfectly even across the screen. It is even better than the laptop LCD screen I use.
- No ghosting
- Images are cleaner and sharper
- Better defined whites.

Though some top-end SVGA cable (SilverSerpent BetterCable) I have does some pretty dang good job but still can't beat my DVI connection.

It depends on your use...

Considering how much blacks the 9UK provides the 10UK could only get better. Congrats on the TV. :)

It's probably due to a small mismatch between the components outputting 1360x768 and the panel's native res of 1366x768. This is very common and not something you need to worry about. Especially since you said yourself it's not noticeable.

You may want to try one of the reolution test patterns that are out on the web. Don't have a link, sorry but I have seen them mentioned in this Forum.
You may very well have all 1366 rows and the black matte part of the glass is allowing some extra at each end of the inside panel to show through.

So the 1 or 2 columns at either end may not be pixels at all, just a part of the inside screen.

Better to have more showing than to have a column or two covered up never to be seen.

Nope.

Even with VGA connection at 1360 x 768 the video can be displayed at full screen, covering all 1366 x 768 lines. I have way too much of experience in this and know what the #uck I'm talking about.. :) The bad is that the videos will be slightly stretched/deteriorated because it's out of 1:1 square pixel mapping.

Sounds good, I'll search for that resolution test pattern. Even if they aren't extras, it's not bothersome at all. I wish I could take a picture of it..
I'll also definitely have to get a DVI input connection as I download a bunch of HD material and general multimedia use. So far I'm still plenty impressed and the picture quality is very comparable to my old CRT.
