View Full Version : Pirates of the Caribbean: TCOTBP Replacement Info
Got my replacement today, I just emailed them I believe on Tuesday with all the info from the package/disc. Pretty exceptional how fast I received a replacement.. I didn't get a reply to my email, just got the disc in the mail today! Oh ya, I'm located in Northern VA.
lgans316 12-23-07, 02:39 AM It's been 4 days since contacting Disney but no replies as yet.
YES, I received my replacement.:)
And I must say very quick for a shipment to Europe, and that with all the christmas cards thet have to deal with !!!
(My Fifth Element took almost 3 months)
This is really great service, so to everybody outside the US/Canada, just fill in the form at the website and they will also give you a replacement;)
Sorry but... what form at what website ?
rolltide1017 12-23-07, 10:35 AM You know that is not going to happen..many people here are saying they are keeping them "for reference" even though part of the agreement for the replacement was to destroy the original, whereas others are bragging about trying to sell it locally.
IF XYLON/Denner had any impact on getting this replacement in gear due to Disney people following these posts, all that goodwill that they felt toward their early adopters is going to quickly go downhill.
I would not be surprised if they make people send in their disks and wait until they receive it before sending out replacements in the future.
I just don't think Disney gives a rats you no what about the original disc. If they did, they would have asked everyone to send it in. I think it is weird that people create these theories about Disney's trust in the early adopter disappearing because some do not throw there old disc away. Plus, I don't remember signing any agreement for the replacement to destroy the original. I just think it is crazy to try and make a big deal about some people keeping it, selling it or whatever. It is there disc, they can do with it what they please. If you want to throw yours away then do, I'm throwing mine away but, don't try and make it some moral issue if people don't. It is really not that big of a deal and Disney could care less, otherwise they would have asked for the disc.
I got mine a couple days ago. And, I got another today! Must be from when I called months ago to let them know about the defect, they took my info then. When the replacement program was announced, I called the number and gave my info again. Funny thing is, the second one had the spelling of my last name wrong and an incorrect street address (sp).
:)
Mothergoose 12-23-07, 05:56 PM Sorry but... what form at what website ?
I meant the disney website:
http://studio.go.com/cgi-bin/gmail/generic_mail.cgi?template=video/dvd_report_a_problem/report.tpl
NemoZorro 12-23-07, 06:09 PM I called Thursday. The nice lady said that they might send a postage paid envelope and if they did to return the old one, which I will. If not, she said to destroy it.
I too am thankful for Disney's efforts here and I won't sell or give the disc away. I might keep it until I know the new one plays fine, then destroy it. Just seems like the right thing to do.
IhateBestBuy 12-23-07, 06:44 PM Well I am certainly not going to destroy something I paid for.
NemoZorro 12-23-07, 07:36 PM Well I am certainly not going to destroy something I paid for.
But you didn't pay for 2 copies that you will have with this replacement program. ;)
Has anyone received a repsonse from Disney recently? Because I'm in the UK and don't want to pay for an international call I filled out the website form last Wednesday. I didn't get any reply so I sent an e-mail on Friday. Still nothing. Maybe the Disney staff have all gone off for the holidays.

Same, I emailed but no response...
devilbones 12-24-07, 01:09 PM I am in Germany and I received my Disc today. I think that I was one of the first callers about this issue.
bunkaroo 12-24-07, 01:25 PM Dammit - another mail day comes and goes with nothing. Originally made contact on 12/14. Emailed to followup on 12/19. No replies.
Made contact Thursday 12-20-07 via e-mail, received my updated copy today 12-24-07, excellent turn around time.
slateef 12-24-07, 06:07 PM Can anyone clarify, this framing problem is only in one scene and lasts only a few seconds or does it involve the whole movie?
dominica 12-24-07, 06:15 PM Made contact Thursday 12-20-07 via e-mail, received my updated copy today 12-24-07, excellent turn around time.
You are right on the excellent turn around time. I am surprised how fast I received my copy. I took us the same time to get it back:D
Emailed them on 12-18-07 got it today 12-24-07 :). I am very happy with Disney's turnaround time.
Matsfan 12-24-07, 11:30 PM I received my email confirmation today, which was about two days after I sent in the request. It didn't say how long it would take to receive the disc but others seem to be getting them quickly.
I received my disc today. Disney has certainly done a great job of correcting a mistake, kudos!
bunkaroo 12-24-07, 11:46 PM Can anyone who still has their envelope confirm if the package is marked 1st Class?
I'm starting to suspect these are coming Media Mail, which for the Chicago area and its ultra-motivated postal workers, means weeks. :(
hd James hd 12-25-07, 01:33 AM I got my disc today. It is almost as if they sent it right away...and didn't put it in a 3 month wait pile.
lgans316 12-25-07, 01:35 AM Been 1 week since contacting them but no reply. Will send the details again.
shadowrage 12-25-07, 01:39 AM I called on the 21 and gave them my address. Got the disc earlier today(I cant tell them apart, I mean the disc art).
I'll probably have to freaking battle with Warner to get my damn WP disc(I got the one US copy with 2 FCs).
I will email Disney about taking over for them.
hAPPY1977 12-25-07, 02:18 AM Been 1 week since contacting them but no reply. Will send the details again.
That's odd. It might be due to the holiday but I got mine in like 4 days after I called.
J P Morgan 12-25-07, 08:27 AM I e-mailed Disney on 12-19-07 and received my replacement on 12-24-07.
Customer service of this quality is too rare.
Lone Wolf & Cub 12-25-07, 11:22 AM I filled out the form on Friday and have yet to receive a reply. I'm in the UK.

Dude, patience man - it IS Christmas. I got my amazon.com shipment like 4 days late due to volume at the post office center and here, and they are usually pretty good. Just wait, it'll get through once all the Christmas stuff ends here.
rolltide1017 12-25-07, 03:22 PM I filled out the online form last Friday and received my disc yesterday! Thanks Disney, great service.

I actually don't care how long it takes. But I have yet to hear anything back from Disney. I talked to them on the 14th, and the lady I talked to didn't even know they'd be sending replacements. Given I've emailed them with no reply, and they're being shipped from the next state over, it's a little irritating to hear people in other parts of the world, let alone those in other parts of the country are getting these already AND they called after me.
If they would just acknowledge they sent it I wouldn't even care about how long the post office is taking.
I actually never got a confirmation email, even though the older lady who I spoke with asked me for it.
Anyway, I called in for my replacement Pirates Blu-ray on the 14th, and I found it in my mailbox yesterday.
Thank you Buena Vista!
peterlee 12-25-07, 09:14 PM I too am thankful for Disney's efforts here and I won't sell or give the disc away. I might keep it until I know the new one plays fine, then destroy it. Just seems like the right thing to do.
But you didn't pay for 2 copies that you will have with this replacement program. ;)
Of course no one paid for the second copy! To state the obvious, it's FREE! Because Disney chose of its own volition to offer the new correct version without charge, I should throw out the copy that I DID pay for? That makes zero sense to me.
I don't want to make a mountain out of a molehill but I do object to your characterization that "the right thing to do" is to throw out the defective disc. As someone who will be keeping his old disc, I think it is highly presumptuous that others should imply or suggest that my decision to preserve my property is "wrong." I reject the insinuation that keeping the old disc is in any way inappropriate. The only other entity that arguably has a stake in this is Disney and it doesn't seem to care. Disney chose not to institute an exchange or ask for a replacement fee nor has it appealed to or suggested that owners should destroy their old version. So under what ethical imperative am I supposedly under that encourages or obliges me to destroy the defective version? Are hobbyists and collectors who keep defective or misprinted stamps, coins or books under a similar ethical cloud? Those of you who are going to feed your old version to the shredder, more power to you. You are free to do whatever you like with what you own. But please don't presume to lecture me about what I should do with MY property. Honestly, it's none of your business.
Sorry for sounding so grouchy. Happy holidays!:)
im keeping mine defective disc now my set is a 3 disc set no sense in putting it in the landfill
stretch35 12-26-07, 02:03 AM Can anyone clarify, this framing problem is only in one scene and lasts only a few seconds or does it involve the whole movie?
as I remember it is at a couple of places most prominetly the sword fight scene at will's workshop last for a few seconds hereandthere easy to miss until you run standard dvd side by side..then you see the problems..

PeeJHooK 12-26-07, 10:17 PM Hello all. I recently just became format neutral and am looking to buy the Pirates trilogy. Can anyone please clarify if the POTC1 on store shelves are corrected versions? Or will I have to buy one then go through the same process as all of you?
yellowcanary73 12-26-07, 11:20 PM Received mine today great service the way it should be thank you Disney
Only a week
Travisimo 12-27-07, 02:27 AM I'd also like to know if the bad discs are pretty much off the market or not? I'm looking to buy this one from Amazon because it's discounted right now, but I don't want the hassle of having to go through a disc exchange.
Are those who have ordered this BR movie from Amazon recently getting corrected discs or are they still the defective ones? Thanks.
hanginglimbs 12-27-07, 07:56 AM you technically could start the exchange process now, before you even buy the disc. People are reporting quick success with the exchange, so I'd hop on a good deal if I saw it. It's not like the original disc is unwatchable, many didn't even notice it.
Albator 12-27-07, 10:27 AM Called on the 19th and got it today!:) Pretty fast if you ask as i am STILL waiting for my 5th element replacement disk that was supposely shipped on dec 11... Mailed my 5th element disk in November and still waiting for the new one...
NemoZorro 12-27-07, 11:37 AM Of course no one paid for the second copy! To state the obvious, it's FREE! Because Disney chose of its own volition to offer the new correct version without charge, I should throw out the copy that I DID pay for? That makes zero sense to me.

Perhaps I didn't word my response correctly; for that I apologize. I wasn't trying to lecture. I feel that many of the older copies will end up on eBay. I strongly believe that is an ethical problem that could change the way these replacement programs work in the future, which is my business. But as you say, it is up to everyone to do as they feel best.
I wasn't trying to insinuate or lecture. Do whatever you want with the old disc. However, realize that, just like software upgrades, the new disc is intended to replace the old one, not compliment it.
They should just do as universal did for their fudged up copy of Jurassic Park DTS which did not have the LFE channel. You had to send them the original disk and they mailed you back the Fixed disk.

I think it depends on who you spoke to. When I called, they did ask that I destroy the old version, so I'm sure others were told to do the same and may assume everyone was instructed to do so. A friend of mine called and they told him to do whatever he wanted with it. Maybe that CS rep understood the futility of telling people to destroy discs.
bunkaroo 12-27-07, 01:13 PM Ugh...another mail day and no disc. Called on the 14th. I swear I am the only one not to get one yet. :(

Then hope you ever receive it no Disney did it the right way we just need to hope the ones that got the replacement do the right thing.:)
bunkaroo 12-27-07, 01:23 PM Well I decided to call and sure enough mine hadn't been processed yet, even though I called before many others. Oh well, no biggie. The nice lady put in for mien to go out today so at least now I know it's coming.
Just wanted to note I was very polite and nice and didn't take out my frustration on their CS. :)
mike171979 12-27-07, 01:24 PM Well I called on the 14th, and it arrived yesterday, Wed, the 26th.
So if you called on the 14th or 15th, like a lot of us did, you'll probably get it today or tomorrow.
I just received an email confirmation that they are mailing mine out.

Thats the best way to handle CSR at least till they start treating you like you're crap then I still try to be polite but then sometimes that makes them even madder but the ones at Disney were really unbelievably nice what a change.

I vaguely remember them saying I "can just throw out the old one when I get the replacement disc." Thinking back on it, they were probably prompted to instruct me to throw it away, but that's not how she worded it. And it sounded more like a suggestion than a request.
Anyhow, I called on the 17th and still haven't received my disc yet. Myabe today? I had almost forgotten about it by now.
Brandon
ppshooky 12-27-07, 05:36 PM I called today and asked them why I hadn't received a notice yet from the email that I sent on the 20th. She told me that they are going through the emails and I should be receiving a response in the next 2 weeks.
Guess I should have ignored their request and just called it in like everyone else who had a 4 day turn around.
Dan Hitchman 12-27-07, 05:42 PM I got mine replaced in two days! Right before the holiday madness too! Talk about good service. The bad framing is gone.
Take that WB!!
kevinivey 12-27-07, 06:48 PM Emailed on 12/23, no response .
slcsnkman 12-27-07, 07:26 PM when will be a good time to purchase this at a local store?
hamsterxcore 12-27-07, 08:42 PM I sent in the email yesterday. We'll see how well this works out.
Got my disc today, called on the 18th, pretty impressed with the service from Disney.
Haywir3 12-27-07, 09:27 PM Surprised to hear others are having issues. Called on the 14th and received my replacement yesterday (26 Dec). Overall I'm very impressed with customer service and disc turnaround.
WilliamG 12-28-07, 02:17 AM I e-mailed on the 21st. No reply yet.
slcsnkman 12-28-07, 02:16 PM dumb question but what upc do they want. is it the number on the actual case?
Tarheel72 12-28-07, 11:10 PM I sent an email on the 18th. Never got any response from them. Got the replacement disc today.
Received my replacement disk... :)
Bushman4 12-29-07, 01:40 AM DISNEY is really GREAT. Not only have they replaced the disks with SPEED, LACK OF HASSLE and COURTESY but they have set the standard for replacement. Hopefully the other studios will follow their example.
Wow! Amazingly quick! Only two days (and that includes the day I e-mailed) and I've already received the new disc!
kevinivey 12-30-07, 01:13 PM Not here! no response or disc. 8 days
isaidme 12-30-07, 07:23 PM Same here, no response to my email. Its been 4days.
nikonosis 12-31-07, 09:31 AM No response to my email either. I tried calling but on the recording it said they only handle it by email now.
I was also confused by the upc number considering there is 2 sets of numbers listed on the upc thing.
I was also confused by the upc number considering there is 2 sets of numbers listed on the upc thing.
Same here - which # are you supposed to use? And wow those #'s on the DVD's inner ring are really hard to read! Anyone have suggestions/techniques to make reading them easier?
How do we tell from the box if we are buying the new version or not?
Toshiro_Mifune 12-31-07, 11:21 AM Just to add a little fuel to the fire, the CSR who took my replacement order said in response to my question of "Do I need to mail you the defective disc?", she said "For this issue, we aren't requiring the defective disc be returned. You can do whatever you want with it".
That being said, I do think it would be awfully tacky to give or sell your original disc to somebody else. If you want to keep it as a back up of sorts, that is fine in my eyes.
isaidme 12-31-07, 12:15 PM Maybe they are backed up and was not expecting this
much response. I used the bottom numbers, I think
there was ten digits? Please someone let me know if
that was incorrect so I can resend my email. Thanks.
Mr. Cinema 12-31-07, 03:36 PM Emailed on 12/20, no response no nothing. Hopefully it shows up this week. I still prefer that all replacement programs be handled via email like this one. I wish WB would set up an email program for T3. Things can go wrong via phone. Possible long wait times and of course the CSR entering in your address incorrectly.

I gave the nice young lady on the phone the numbers on the outside of the case side "53455", that was it she seemed to know what I was calling about. Wish I had written her name down. :(

TyrantII 01-01-08, 09:45 AM Emailed with just my addy about a week before xmas.
Hadn't received a response, but just got the replacement in the mail.
Emailed <disneyinfo@disneyhelp.com> on 12/18/07. They responded to my email on 12/20/07 requesting only shipping info (name + address).
Received replacement disc in Nazareth, PA on 12/31/07. It was shipped from Neenah. WI.
Great customer service experience. :D
ArthurL 01-01-08, 08:13 PM FWIW, they are showing up north of the border, I received my replacement disc just prior to the New Year (shipped from the US).
tkbryant 01-02-08, 12:57 AM Emailed Disney on 12-22. Got a response on 12-27. Received new disc on 12-29.

Teepanen 01-02-08, 01:23 PM To those that got their replacement disks, do you see any visible difference between the cases?
Michael_T 01-02-08, 01:49 PM I called Disney today since I hadn't heard from them or received my replacement disc, and I e-mailed them on 12/18/07.
I was told I was not yet in their computer, but I should be patient. They told me they have a lot of different people working on the e-mails they received and depending on who my e-mail was directed to it could determine the turn-around time. They received so many e-mails regarding replacement discs that it is hard for them to get to them all on a timely basis.
When I told the woman on the phone that other people e-mailed after me and received their discs already, she apoligized and told me that if I e-mailed it to the right address (which I did) it will be taken care of - I just needed to be patient.
ArthurL 01-02-08, 02:35 PM To those that got their replacement disks, do you see any visible difference between the cases?
They don't send a new case, just the disc in a paper envelope (sent in bubble wrapped envelope).
BenDover 01-02-08, 02:43 PM i called in today after having sent an email when the program was first announced; they appear to be handling it differently now in that they will send you a return labelf for shipping them your defective disc (just the disc, not the whole package or disc 2) and once they receive that, they will mail out the replacment disc.
cmepasu 01-02-08, 02:45 PM I just got off the phone with Disney and they said that they would send me a mailer within a week or two, and I would need to mail in the original before they would send a replacement. Did I do something wrong? I would rather not be without a disc for an indefinite period of time.
Thanks

Wow thats a big change got mine with just a call must be finding some of the old ones online for sale you know some people just love to ruin it for others just to make a buck.:(
cmepasu 01-02-08, 03:18 PM My only issue is having to go without a disc from the time I ship mine until whenever they get around to replacing it. I wouldn't mind if they asked for a credit card number that would be charged if I didn't return the original in a certain time frame.
I just called and was almost shocked to know that the customer service person was working out of north america (bravo disney/buena). Anyways im located in Canada and my replacement disc will be here in 4 weeks.
EDIT: I literally called 10 minutes ago, and they didnt ask me to send them the original disc, just that my replacement would be here in 4 weeks.
stumlad 01-02-08, 03:56 PM Has anyone played the replacement disc and verified that PQ/AQ/etc is the same with the framing corrected?
Filipinoyakuza 01-02-08, 06:05 PM I have never been able to get POTC: Curse Of The Black Pearl to play on my PS3.I've had my copy of the BD movie and my PS3 replaced and it still will not read or play the movie.I've also downloaded and installed the latest PS3 firmware update.
rolltide1017 01-02-08, 07:39 PM No problem at all on my PS3.
bunkaroo 01-02-08, 09:05 PM Well I finally get to join the elite club of those who received a replacement. Thanks for listening to me whine! :)
BulkHedd 01-03-08, 04:26 PM I e-mailed Disney on 12/20 and have not gotten a response or my replacement. I hope I don't get a mailer to send in my old disc.
BerserkerTails 01-03-08, 05:15 PM Got mine a week back... Since I'm Canadian (West Coast) I was amazed at how fast it got here. Put a sharpie dot on the old disc, put the old disc in the paper envelope the new one came in, and stored it in the case along with the new Disc 1 and Disc 2. Now I have a fun party trick (Now you see his head, now you don't!)
todbnla 01-03-08, 11:04 PM Well I will email, just got a copy today from amazon.com with the same issue, hope I dont have to mail it back in, that turn around sucks without a movie.
Was_There_Then 01-04-08, 12:05 AM Got mine within a week (received it just before Christmas) which is fantastic service considering I am in Australia!
Well done Disney! :)
ThePrisoner 01-04-08, 06:20 AM I emailed Disney on Christmas day, I have not received a reply yet but I'm being patient. I received At Worlds End for X-mas but have not watched it yet. I'am waiting to get my corrected copy so my wife & I can watch the trilogy.
VXXJesterXXV 01-04-08, 08:15 AM I emailed them on 12/19 and have received no response or replacement. I may try to call them sometime today to see if my info was received.

Dont bother, just call, i emailed, waited 10 days, said screw it and called my replacement will be here within 4 weeks (live in canada, the lady on the phone said they are in wisconsin) and didnt say anything about having to mail the old disc.
BenDover 01-04-08, 09:01 AM For those that weren't told they would have to mail the old disc, did you have your disc in front of you at the time and did you read them the numbers off the hub of the disc?

Nope, you just have to read the UPC code off the sleeve/case
Bleddyn H Williams 01-04-08, 09:23 AM I emailed them on 12/19 and have received no response or replacement. I may try to call them sometime today to see if my info was received.
Same day as me. Nothing yet. Thinking of calling.
ArthurL 01-04-08, 11:23 AM For those that weren't told they would have to mail the old disc, did you have your disc in front of you at the time and did you read them the numbers off the hub of the disc?
The lady asked for the 5 (?) digit code on the spine of case.
I e-mailed them back on Dec. 20th and still haven't received anything, and my e-mail didn't bounce back, so I went ahead and called them. They told me they would send out a prepaid mailer in about a week and I'd need to send them disc 1 so they can send me a replacement. Awesome. I have to wait a month for my corrected disc just because some people thought it would be cool to make a few bucks off of their original, defective disc. I think I might just hang on to the copy I already have. :\
eightninesuited 01-04-08, 01:06 PM Got mine. It came in a sleeve. I was hoping they would send the case.
musacfreak 01-04-08, 01:18 PM I sent an email on 12/24 and have yet to hear back or receive anything.
I will probably call on Monday if I haven't received a response or the corrected disc by then.
I just purchased POTC last week from Amazon, the disc still has the framing issues.
I'm thinking of reporting it defective in a couple of weeks in hopes that new batches have been sent to the retailers.
theforce8686 01-04-08, 02:00 PM I must have got a good version of it when it was released. I have never noticed any issues with my copy. Im glad I didnt have to go through this hassle.
bplewis24 01-04-08, 02:24 PM Update on my situation. I called on the 17th and was told my copy would arrive in 7-10 days. I still hadn't received it by today, so I called this morning and they said my copy was mailed out on the 31st. So it should be arriving shortly.

I just called and spoke to Karen, she told me to send in my Disc 1 for replacement, I'll be receiving an email in about 3 days and a pre-paid mailer. Looks like I'll be waiting longer.

I did the same, by calling Disney instead of emailing. So it seems to be standard procedure that they require you to send the "defective" disk back first (with the form which they send you), before they mail out the new and defect free BD. Right?.
Ditto, just got a response email to the one I sent in on the 20th of December telling me a prepaid envelope is on its way to ship back disc 1 for replacement. Oh well, it's good enough that it'll be taken care of....not like everyone hasn't watched their copy by now nehow. Good luck everyone.
Don Borvio 01-04-08, 07:35 PM Yeah, I called in and they said now they are sending out an envelope to return the old disc and then they'll send the new one. I guess that will eliminate cheating.
I just picked up TCOTBP today at a BBY in Murray, Utah and it is the corrected version.
John Ballentine 01-06-08, 08:30 AM Just received my replacement disc. Perfect! :) Hat's off to Disney! :) (I didn't have to return my original disc. Guess I'll just toss it.)

is there an identification on the outside of the corrected disc packages that we can use to determine before buying? did they change the upc code on the corrected version?
1MaNArmY 01-06-08, 05:45 PM I just picked up TCOTBP today at a BBY in Murray, Utah and it is the corrected version.
how do you know you have the corrected version? Is the packaging marked differently than the initial release?
kevinivey 01-06-08, 06:59 PM how do you know you have the corrected version? Is the packaging marked differently than the initial release?
I would like to know this too. Disney has ignored me ,and my original is unopened.
how do you know you have the corrected version? Is the packaging marked differently than the initial release?
I know it is the corrected version because I went through the screen captures thread and carefully compared my copy to the framing error screen shots and mine matched the correct shot every time.
My disc also has the new numbers on the read side of the disc as someone posted earlier in this thread.
As for the outside packaging, I don't know as I never owned the original version. Mine has the number 53455 on the side but that may not have been changed as I believe all the numbers on the disc label have remained the same.
jewing1043 01-07-08, 10:55 AM anybody no how to spot the two versions from the outside of the package???
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks
JFox562 01-07-08, 12:29 PM Called mine in on Dec 17th and finally (thought it was lost) got my replacement on Saturday Jan 5th. I'm in Northern California.
I called the toll free number (Canada) on Dec 27 and they have a recorded message to email my info to the email address that was in the first post. I have not received any confirmation or disc yet.
I am terrible at being patient. :D

Shouldn't you already have a case from the time you bought the movie?
VXXJesterXXV 01-07-08, 04:22 PM Same day as me. Nothing yet. Thinking of calling.
Calling got me a "We'll send out a prepaid mailer so you can send disc 1 back to us." Great, I emailed in the first few days and now I have to send the old one back.
Yeah, I called in and they said now they are sending out an envelope to return the old disc and then they'll send the new one. I guess that will eliminate cheating.
Even more on this, the did NOT send a freaking envelope. The sent me a sheet to fill out, which was not specific to the issue it was a generic DVD issue sheet. They included a media mail sticker to put on whatever package I personally find or buy to put the disc in. I am not thrilled with that, i mean give me a freaking envelope to put the disc in like you told me. So now rather than it being in the mail tomorrow, i have to wait until i can find something to put the disc in.
Sorry if I sound a bit annoyed, but truth is I kind of am.

I called them and was told to email the info just two days later, on the 19th. Today I get an email saying they're sending me a mailer to bloody return the disc before mailing out a replacement. How tedious.
I suppose they suspect they're mailing a lot of discs to people who didn't buy the film in the first place, but its still a pain in the ass after hearing about people who easily received replacements without this chore.
Joe 6 Pack 01-07-08, 07:00 PM Well this sucks, I just got the same email too after calling as soon as I found out about this. Now I have to find something to mail it out in. I should just send it back in a friggin envelope since I really don't care if the disc is broken by the time it reaches them. Thanks to idiots trying to screw the system, real customers get the shaft.

Nearly the exact same thing happened to me. I didn't call though, just sent an e-mail to the Disney Info address on 12/19, no response until today 01/07 - saying they are sending me a mailing lable to return the disc.
Oh well. At least I know the process is moving along.

The UPC code on my corrected version is 86936 72479 with a small 7 before the # and a small 5 after it. Maybe someone can post the UPC of the bad version to see if they changed it.

Mine was the correct version, w/ the same UPC (no surprise), but I have a small 0 after the UPC, not a 5.
When sending in an e-mail to Disney, what should I write? Do I just request the new disc with my information, or what?

They want your full name, address, phone number, and UPC. If you call the number, an automated assistant will give you this same info.
Mine was the correct version, w/ the same UPC (no surprise), but I have a small 0 after the UPC, not a 5.
My faulty copy has the 0 after the UPC also, so the UPC did not change with the newer stock which is not surprising.
gadgetscom 01-08-08, 03:55 PM I just called and spoke with CS at Disney and she told me that my copy was not the remastered version. She didn't ask for UPC or anything to confirm if it was faulty or not, so apparently all the dics in the stores have the incorrect framing.

Thank you for the e-mail regarding your Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse

We are aware of the issue and are able to resolve it with a different
copy of the disc. Please reply to this e-mail with your full contact
information. Once we receive your full mailing address, we will send out
a postage paid return mail label. Please send us the disc only and
keep all original packaging. Upon receiving your disc we will send out a
replacement to you.
If you have any other questions, please reply to this e-mail.

This quote makes me laugh. I have been reading in this thread and the other thread that got locked about people complaining they have to send back their faulty discs. How is this BS??? I am surprised Disney didn't do it this way from the start. I fully expect to have to send back my faulty item in question to get a replacement. It is proof that you have purchased said item.
When I first heard about this issue with POTC and heard that Disney wasn't asking for the old disc, I thought "Here goes all the scammers out there getting free discs". And sure enough people are bragging they have gotten 10 "free" copies of the movie.
Yes I agree it is an inconvenience to have to send your disc away and wait for it to get back. Oh well! There are worse things in the world that could happen.
I applaud Disney for changing the process, although I think it should have been done this way from the start.

My issue is I sent an email to them two days after the replacement program went live and never got a return email. Others who sent emails or called after me have already gotten replacements. Now I have to send my disc back and wait longer. I had to call them to finally find out what was going on, but others already had their new discs.
Then they send a label out, but they don't send an envelope to put your disc in. So now I have to find something to throw the disc in to return it.
The truth is I have no problem returning the disc, I just wish they would have done this for everyone and not sent replacements out to those who contacted later than myself and others. Also if I have to send the disc back, give me something to put it in. Overall this is still not a bad situation, just frustrating it changed and I had to contact them twice to find that out.
musacfreak 01-09-08, 10:13 AM I got my email yesterday from Disney - replied, so now I'm waiting for my envelope to send the disc to them in.
Called Jan 4th, received disc today Jan 9th, great service, and i didnt have to mail the old disc either, frisbee time :D
I called in on Dec 29, thinking everybody was still in the silly season mode. After ignoring the Disney prompts I got a hold of a nice lady and she took down the info and proof of purchase of the old disk. The disk came about a week later and there was no mention of returning the old one.
BulkHedd 01-09-08, 12:06 PM I sent the e-mail on 12/20 and I got the response today telling they are sending a return mail label for me. When they receive my disc they will send the replacement.

Pretty lame that I have to go through this whole process when others just had to call into the number. It took them almost 3 weeks to respond to my email request. I wonder how long it will take for them to send me the right disc back.
NemoZorro 01-10-08, 12:28 PM I've been offline for a few days, but I did get my disc in a timely manner without a return anything. She told me that if I received a return envelope, to return the disc; otherwise to destroy.
My guess like was posted above is that they are receiving tons of these requests for new discs, so they changed their policy on returns. Or perhaps they were eager to get the discs out for good PR and didn't get the full replacement program in place initially.
Either way, it is still a great job by them to fix this. I'm glad I didn't have to send mine in first, but those that have to will at least know they will get a good copy afterwards.
eaglengraver 01-10-08, 11:17 PM I hate it when I pay 30.00 bucks for BD disk and they make a mistake and then I have to wait 3 weeks for a response to be told to mail in my old disk to wait another month to get the replacement. Now that BD seems to be winning the HD war I guess this is the kind of service we can expect. No competition=higher prices and piss poor customer service.
Dr_Kn0w 01-11-08, 08:06 AM I contacted Disney through their site on Dec 19 about getting a replacement for this movie. They email me on Dec 21 requesting my full contact info so they can ship me the disc. I thought to myself "Damn, Disney's on top of their game!! They're very quick and responsive."
Little did I know it would take them 2-3 weeks to actually ship the disc. I received an email from them on Jan 8 saying they will be sending me my replacement disc (they did not say the disc shipped). I wonder how long it'll actually take to arrive. And here I thought they were quick.....
Has anyone sent in their original disc and received their replacement yet? I was wondering what the turnaround time is?
T Morris 01-11-08, 01:25 PM Seems like things are slowing down (backing up?) as I sent them an email on 1/3 with full information and have yet to receive an acknowledgment of any kind.
can some one post link, through which we contact disney for replacement? and if it is for POTC 1&2 both or just one?
thnx

Same here, except it was 1/1.
Michael_T 01-11-08, 04:52 PM I haven't received a response at all from them and I e-mailed them on 12/18 and then again on 1/2. I did call and they told me to be patient, that they will get around to my e-mail, but my patience is running out since it seems a lot of other people have gotten their discs or at least a response. I am going to call Disney right now, I think.
Well I actually did just call Disney and finally the customer service person decided, since my original e-mails were not responded to, to put me in to receive the postage paid mailer to send back the incorrect/defective disc 1. I asked her why they changed their procedure of requiring the disc 1 returned when other people, at the beginning of this effort, were merely sent replacements. She said she was not privy to why the change in procedure, but she apologized for the fact that I would have to incur a wait to get my replacement disc. I also asked how long will the turn around time be once I send in my disc for me to get the replacement and she couldn't tell me that either. She did say that the disc goes media mail each way so it could take 7 - 10 days to them, then another 7 to 10 days back to me. I guess you have to add a week or two in between for them actually replace the disc and mail it out to me, so I guess it will be up to 30 days to receive the replacement.
Oh well, life goes on.

I'm guessing if it has the trailer for Pirates:AWE BD, then it is the new one. I just picked this up at the TRU BOGO and it's the corrected version...and has the Pirates:AWE BD trailer at the beginning.

Maybe you could put the label directly on the disc and send it like that. :D
IhateBestBuy 01-11-08, 07:19 PM I called the number in the letter and sweared out the customer service rep...this was pretty effin lame that we had to send the disc back.
Don Borvio 01-11-08, 11:02 PM Well, I emailed on Christmas day and also called a few days later...still nothing. So much for their fast service.
Dr_Kn0w 01-11-08, 11:06 PM Stupid question Im sure but where do I find those numbers at to check and see which version I received?
On the inner part of the disc near the hole in the centre on the data side. You'll see those codes there.
pghflyer 01-12-08, 01:10 AM That's what I thought too, but I must have got the 5th wild card disc, because my number is A0100894564-A911/B911 (bought at TRU this week).
OgamiItto 01-12-08, 05:19 PM So do they want the blu ray with the case, or just the disc itself? The form I got asks for the DVD in its case.
MaynardJames 01-12-08, 06:52 PM Man what a bunch of whiners on this forum, its pretty pathetic if you ask me.
I sent in the form on their website posted earlier in this thread, and just received an email asking for my info and that they will then send out a replacement. No mention whatsoever about sending the disc in. I for one am glad that they have rectified this minor problem, and will not whine and cry about having to send my bad disc that I no longer care about in (if I had had to do that) or having to pay 10 cents postage, nor will I boycott the rest of Disney's great catalogue for providing a solution to their problem.
Well I had sent them an email long time ago and the disk arrived in an envelop yesterday. Looks good. I did not have to return the old one. I bet someone abused the system and they are getting stricter.
kevinivey 01-12-08, 08:20 PM Kind of hard to abuse a system when they only selectively answer email request. Dec 22 ,still no response.

A few days ago, Disney sent me a letter about mailed the original TCOBP BD back before they will send me a replacement disc. I haven't send my original BD back to Disney, but today, I received the replacement BD disc came in the mail.
My theory is depending how you requested for the replacement disc, you may receive a letter to mail back the original BD or the BD disc itself.
I mailed off my bad disc on Wednesday. I'll keep you all posted about the turnaround.
obispo21 01-12-08, 11:21 PM I mailed off my bad disc on Wednesday. I'll keep you all posted about the turnaround.
scitek - Did you send the entire "release" (i.e. Both disc 1 & 2, and case and display sleeve?).
I received my mail-in label on Wednesday. It says to send the DVD "in it's case". I'm thinking I might just send disc 1 in a CD sleeve.
ThePrisoner 01-13-08, 10:18 AM I sent my disc in a CD sleeve.
AMartin56 01-13-08, 10:32 AM Man what a bunch of whiners on this forum, its pretty pathetic if you ask me.
I assume you are replying to me.
I suppose I wouldn't be 'whining' if I didn't have to send mine back via the half assed method they provided. So I imagine you would probably be 'whining' too if you received the same treatment.
Also keep in mind that the 'return label' they provided is for use with USPS, is very similar to 'Business Reply' postcards you've seen and DOES NOT provide the ability to track the shipment. So considering that it took multiple emails to even get this thing finally sent to me, I'm NOT going to put $30 (the disc) of my money into packing materials that I have to supply (granted only a few bucks if that) and then mail it off with no way to confirm when it gets there (and trusting that they can even process them properly when it does).
A small portion of the work I do for my employer involves knowledge of our RMA process, and I can assure you that when WE screw up we take care of everything and don't require our customer to come up with their own packing materials. Of course we also provide them means to track the defective product on it's way back to us (or write it off entirely if it's cheap).
So you may want to use the term 'pathetic' more sparingly.
OgamiItto 01-13-08, 10:43 AM Ok, so I packaged the blu ray and put the return label on it. Now do I need to take it to the post office, or can I drop it into any mail box? I've never done this before, so I apologize for the stupid question.

you can drop it in any mailbox including your own.
OgamiItto 01-13-08, 02:13 PM you can drop it in any mailbox including your own.
Thanks.
nelsona 01-13-08, 02:47 PM Emailed them last week. Hven't heard anything yet. Once I get the shipping label, I think I'll return my disc using an old Toshiba HD DVD firmware upgrade cd mailer. :D
mustang5o 01-14-08, 04:26 PM Just received my email today stating they will send me a shipping label. At first I was kind of upset at the idea of having to send in a disc. Then again, how else are they supposed to track who has actually paid for a copy already? If they just kept sending out replacement discs without something returned to them there would be people who would get free copies stating they own the bad disc.
It won't be too long when people will post "Disney still hasn't received my "POC: TCOTBP, lost in mail, what should I do?"
I'm still debating about sending my disc in. I'm not sure if the framing issue is serious enough to risk getting my original disc lost in the mail.

I think it's pretty obvious that their disc RMA process is intended for use with 'cheap' DVD's. I don't feel comfortable sending in a $30 disc with no ability to track it either.
I have no problem with them wanting the disc back to cut down on fraud, but give me a decent return label (trackable) with packing materials. I shouldn't have to spend anymore than I already have...THEY shipped a defective product.
yellowcanary73 01-14-08, 06:51 PM I had no problem getting mine without sending mine old one in but I also had registered mine at Disney reward program.
AMartin56 01-14-08, 07:23 PM I just spoke at length with a a rep from Disney and their supervisor. I asked for two items: packing materials and a means of return that can be tracked (Unlike the USPS label I have in my possession now). They are sending me a padded envelope but won't budge on providing proper shipping. She did indicate that they sent out copies without requiring a return initially but have changed their procedure due to high demand.
Them wanting the disc back makes sense to avoid fraud (But only to a certain point...hell if I WAS trying to swindle another copy of the movie out of them what would I do with it?...I have a reasonable amount of friends who enjoy movies, but NONE of them own a blu-ray player). But I believe it also makes sense for me to want my rights protected and I'm not going to ship a $35 disc back to them into a potential blackhole without the means to prove that it reached them.
musacfreak 01-14-08, 07:27 PM How long has it been taking to receive the shipping label from Disney? I received an email last week (Tuesday 1/8) requesting my shipping information. I responded and have yet to receive anything.
AMartin56 01-14-08, 07:29 PM How long has it been taking to receive the shipping label from Disney? I received an email last week (Tuesday 1/8) requesting my shipping information. I responded and have yet to receive anything.
I had to send two emails before getting a response. Total time from initial request was 3 weeks.
Davin_Felth 01-14-08, 07:36 PM Hmm... I sent the e-mail to them on 12/26 and still haven't received anything. Guess it's time to try to get a hold of someone.

It's best to call and wait for a CSR. I called last week and received my shipping label today. The lady I spoke with informed me I would receive the lable w/in a week.
I also emailed them about a month ago but never received a response.
Now, I'm still debating whether to risk sending my disc in. I rather have a disc with minor framing issues than no disc at all, if it were to get lost during the shipping process.

I'm in the same position. I would have sent it in if they provided packaging and tracking information but now I'm not sure I want to a) pay for packaging and b) send it off without a trace to the USPS. Very disapointed :(
vnguyen 01-15-08, 12:38 PM I'd suggest everyone just call customer service. I emailed Disney 2 weeks ago and no response, but it took 2 minutes to give out my info on the phone.
Cyclops--- 01-15-08, 01:01 PM If you are sending the disc back, why is there a need to package the disc nicely if it is only done to make sure you have bought the movie initially. They are going to get it, look at the reference number on the disc and trash it. To me the packaging of the disc should be just placing it in a manila envelope maybe with a paper sleeve and mail it. Just like Netflix. Like everyone else, I would much rather have a trackable shipping form and is also wondering if I should send it back. They probably did this on purpose as well to reduce the number of people wanting to exchange the movie.

Absolutely. I had sent 2 e-mails and received no response so I called the 800 # and spoke to a VERY nice lady. She assured me I'd have the mailer in 3-4 days and that the exchange process would be handled in a timely manner. I'm sure it will still be a few weeks before I actually have a corrected copy in hand, but at least I finally spoke to someone in person who was willing to help.

FlyingMadMan 01-15-08, 02:37 PM Is it safe to assume that Amazon's stocks are all "corrected" ones?
Hi. No, not at all. I just ordered mine from Amazon two days ago. I just received it, and it has the cropped off frames. :(
Is it safe to assume that Amazon's stocks are all "corrected" ones?
I can also confirm that Amazon has the ones with the framing issues present. I received a replacement from Amazon this weekend and it still had the framing issues. Amazon offered a refund since it appears they are now aware of the problem.

That's where I bought my copy last week and got the mis-framed disc. :(
Claw97000 01-15-08, 06:57 PM I do have to say this for Disney...the fraud is a real thing. When they sent out discs no ifs or ans at first I know for a fact there was fraud occuring. I've seen people offering up for sale on Ebay as well as other sites "disc only" copies of the movie...hmm, wonder where they got them from?

Oh thanks guys! Im from the Philippines, and plan to get my BR movies from Amazon(very very rare to get them here locally), shipping fees will be Hell. But I guess I have to wait this one out huh? Hopefully they will restock it with the good copies soon.
PS34VER 01-15-08, 08:23 PM Does anyone know of the EXACT time during the movie where this "cut-off" takes place? I need to know if I need to get my movie exchanged.
Thank you!

Paul Beck 01-15-08, 08:43 PM I tried calling the number at the end of November and could not get through. I waited forty minutes once and gave up, then a second time for thirty minutes. Finally got through second week of December and was told to email them. I sent my email with complete information on December 16th and did not receive and email reply until last week. Since the holidays were in between, that was not bad. However, they indicated a return label would be sent. I received that today, and they not only want the disc, but in the case according to my form letter. And all the information I sent by email they want all over again.
Since I have had the disc since it first came out, I am beginning to wonder if it is worth sending back since there are two discs and only one with a problem. As another person asked, how much time is involved in the misframing? If it is relatively small I don't want to have it "Lost in the mail".
I happen to prefer movies correctly framed but this is becoming ridiculous.
If anyone knows the tiime involved I would appreciate that as would several others on this thread.
Does anyone know of the EXACT time during the movie where this "cut-off" takes place? I need to know if I need to get my movie exchanged.

I mailed mine off over a week ago. I paid for delivery confirmation so I would at least have some proof they received it. I will let you guys know when I get a replacement. So far it has made it to St. Paul, MN. media mail is very slow.

Unable to get you buddy. I have mailed them all the required disc details. Only upon confirmation they have acknowledged to send the replacement disc.

No mention of a replacement disc or an exchange just about contacting me as soon as they have "a resolution"
I thought they already had a resolution. I am in the UK but have the US disc. I'm beginning to wonder if they are putting a stop to sending replacements outside of the US. I have had the BD since its release last year.
Not too happy at present:(

I think I'm going to wait until someone here who was required to send theirs in gets one back to see how long it takes before I commit to doing so. I don't want to be waiting weeks upon weeks for to replace a mostly acceptable disc, or possibly loose it all together.
musacfreak 01-18-08, 03:06 PM Received email from WDE last night saying that they were sending the label and to ship only the disc. At least I've gotten an update.
Michael_T 01-18-08, 06:02 PM I got my letter and mailing label, after calling (since they never and still have yet to respond to two e-mails I sent them). I am sending the disc tonight - hopefully the replacement won't take forever.

Stay on the line until you can talk to a customer service rep. That's what I did.
FWIW, I had contacted the BVHE CS through the phone number which i found in here. After speaking to an agent, I received the form and the Media Mail pre-paid label in the mail on the following week or so after my initial phone call.
I completed the form and put the BD in a jewel case inside a bubble protected envelop and mailed it off (about 10-12 days ago max), using the pre-paid label.
I received my new copy today in the mail. It came in a bubble protected envelop inside a paper sleeve. The packaging could have been better, but there was no damage or stress.
There are a few members in here who seem to be making much fuss about not much. You do take a chance sending anything in the mail, but BVHE has a solid CS reputation. Try not to sweat the small stuff too much. ;)
sweetmisery 01-20-08, 10:30 AM Will I be fine, given that Im from the Philippines(if I order Black Pearl from Amazon), or should I just wait a few months when all the discs they sell are ok?

Same here, I got a confirmation a few days ago. I'm just going to give the "bad" copy to my friend....most people would never notice the difference.
kevinivey 01-20-08, 07:20 PM I like how the information sheet they send says "VHS" return form on the header.
