I have a Panasonic 50PX77U HDTV being delivered on Monday. I also have a Marantz DV4001 SD-DVD player w/ HDMI output as well. Eventually I could see buying a PS3 since I like gaming, but I'm getting older and haven't had time for that fun stuff lately so it's not a pressing need. So as I wait to buy a PS3 (and the blu-ray in it) I figured the Marantz would do a decent job of upconverting my SD-DVD's to 720p on the Panny. .
Since my A/V receiver is a 3-year old Marantz SR5400 w/out HDMI, I was going to run the Marantz DV4001 into the Panny with the HDMI and then run a separate audio feed into the receiver via digital coax.
Does this make sense? Do any of you with (I'll guarantee) greater knowledge of this stuff have a recommendation on how I can achieve the best PQ on my new Panny with this SD-DVD player?
I realize that the Panny is only 720p, but my eyes could not discern a difference when viewing from 12-15 feet between the 50" 720 and 1080.
I just want to make sure that I'm going to get the best possible PQ out of my SD-DVD collection until I plunge into blu-ray and/or hd-dvd.
Thanks in advance for your input! It's greatly appreciated.
