I hope as a newbie I can get some help here. I posted once before here and based on that result I went off and did some research on my own but still need some help. I live in Pleasantville, NY which is about 35 miles north of NYC. I want do a front projector set up in my family room. I read articles and some of the threads here so now I want to see some of this stuff before I buy. (This is too expensive just to order this stuff on line, I want to see before I buy.) I went to Harvey Electronics in Mount Kisco, NY (the closest "hi-end" shop to my place). The experience was terrible, I knew more than the sales person did. Some of the things they said were just plain wrong (they do not understand the technologies very well) and many of the things they said were contrary to the advise found here. :(

Can any of the members who live in the NYC tri-state area recommend shops where I can see a good set up or two and get some proper advise and guidance?

I feel your pain. I'm the same distance south of NYC on the NJ shore and there are no resources for this kind of thing. I based my projector search on reviews of others and am very happy with my decision on a Sony bought here at AV Science.

Why don't you get a short list of projectors you're interested in and look for dealers in NYC itself? It may be that AV Science can help you out, maybe they have a road show or maybe there's a show coming up in the NYC area.

I HIGHLY recommend Sound Ideas in Armonk (about 5 minutes off of Rt.22)

I bought my JVC RS-1 and Da-Lite CinemaVision screen from them, and the experience was terrific. They really know their stuff and are very personable. They carry many different lines, and will work hard to make sure you are happy both short and long term.

The Address is 28 Kaysal Court, PH# is 914-273-2510

Rumson. Grew up in Shark River though and went to Belmar beach.

We are a decent distance from the city. But we'd be more than willing to give you a demo of some stuff if you would like to venture on up...

Cool. I live right around the corner from the Windmill on River Road. Been here for a little over 2 years.

TL5, Thank you so much, I will give them a try, Armonk is like 10 minutes or less from me. :)
