My uncles swears up and down the "software player" in the link below will allow you to play Blu-Ray discs on a regular DVD-Rom drive. He wouldn't give up his stance no matter what and we just had a stupid IM argument because I was just trying to correct him. He thinks I think I'm always right, but I think the same about him. hehe. So, it's a bit frustrating in this case. He says it's a "software player", but I'm saying the software just decodes the video and that you still need a blu-ray drive to actually READ the disc.

Please settle this. I doubt this will even help though, so I may have to get this software just to prove it.

He's wrong, of course.

You need a totally different laser than what's in a DVD drive to play a Blu-ray . . . otherwise there's no need for a Blu-ray drive . . .

That's what I said.

The poll is up now. I hate arguing over stupid stuff, but when I'm right about something like this I don't like to just nod my head and not say what is actually true. hehe.

You're both wrong. You need a HD DVD drive to watch Blu-rays. :D:D

Ask him to prove it to you. Tell him to buy WinDVD and a few blu-ray discs and you'll bring the popcorn.

Was the one yes vote from your uncle?

LOL, I thought the same thing when I voted. It has to be unless someone was being a smart a$$. This is software and has nothing to do with hardware what so ever. You still need a BD drive.

You uncle is funny. :D

At least he's into this stuff. Even if he doesn't know exactly what he is talking about. :p

He may be confused because the software is called WinDVD. Perhaps they should change the name if it's going to play BDs as well.

That's pretty good. And he could also taunt him while the blu-rays are struggling to be recognized:

*munching on popcorn* "You need any lasers or anything over there?" *munching on popcorn*
