I just got les chevaliers du ciel from amazon.fr. It will not play in my A1.
I did a google search. It appears to be a issue with gen1 players. As they made it to work with Gen2 and later players.

I'm using 2.0 right now.
Has anybody had any luck playing this on a gen1, A1 player.
Has newer firmware fixed this.

Do I need a gen 2 or 3 player?
I am playing on getting a new player anyway. But if I can get the A1 to play the film that would be great.
I'm hoping walmart does another A2 sale. Id really like the Xa2 or Xa3 with analog outs.

You might as well try updating your player to its newest firmware. Can't hurt.

Yeah I will give that a try. Toshibia hasn't been sending me discs. I got 2.0 last. I've called for 2.3 twice still nothing I think I will give them a call tommorow or ask a friend with high speed to download it. As I've only got dial up. The last time I attempted a down load the estimate was 8hrs forget that.

Ah, well then ya, I can see why you haven't already updated.

Not that it means anything, since they're from different studios, but a new French release, Triplets of Belleville, played fine on my A1 with fw 2.3. Maybe that'll work for you.

...are the Fox Pathe titles that I guess will never play on the A1/XA1. Personally I own Stalingrad and and an A1 and the latest firmware 2.4 changes nothing. I don't remember who posted the info, but apparently it was a disc problem and there was talk of exchanges but so far nada. It does kinda suck, but I also own an A2 so what can you do ...? Sounds like there are still "bad" copies of these titles being sold.

May have to get a a2. Hopfully theirs another $99 sale. That would be nice. I almost picked up a A2 but got a ps3 for blu.

Well none of the other french movies I want are on that list so I'm good till I get the a2-a3. I may get the DVD for now as I've got a multi-region player

As a nice coincidence, I'm actually watching "Les chevaliers du ciel" on my HD-XA1. Plays perfectly without making any trouble. FW is 2.4

Nice, time to call toshibia and get my 2.4 firmware. May be able to wait on the player upgrade.

Its actually all 6 movies with 2 per DVD and then a 4th DVD for extras. I hope it comes out on time as well (12/13/07) . It has already been delayed from mid november so I suspect it will as they will try to get it out before Christmas.

ive never seen any of the movies. but ive liked all the french imports so far.
6 films for 60 euros isnt bad either
well at least until i can get this last film working.
ive got the update disc comming now. its on back order so it could take awhile. i may ask a friend to download the 2.4 FW.

I plan to order the set as well. I've seen most of them. The earlier ones are better. I am not sure if you are familiar with Louis de Funes but he was a one of the top comedic actors in France. His performances are slightly slapstick. These are family film crowd pleasers. Cute comedies that are well written and entertaining. Far from the intimist films that you often see in France.

Nice! Thanks for the heads-up. I love the de Funes movies. I hope they release the older ones as well, and of course the Fantomas trilogy.

Well I just looked on the Warner France website and the Gendarmes collection has again slipped on the release date. It is now 1/15/08. So much for me buying it while I am in France ! :mad:

will now work on A1 players. This is a Pathe HD-DVD so prehapps others will work.

Here's the story I updtated the player. Tryed the movie. Got the no disc error. It took 2 soft resets and a hard reset. Finnaly on the 4th try it worked. The A1 strugged a bit a first as it took a bit longer to boot the disc. But it plays flawless so far.
