View Full Version : DVD Recorder Basics

I need to buy a DVD recorder to move some recordings off a PVR and onto a computer. I will not use the DVD Recorder to time shift as I have DVRs already.

From reading a ton on the forum, I think there are two considerations for me.
1) Ease of use. If I just want to dump video from the PVR to a DVD, does this matter? What makes a recorder easy to use? I will be using the PC to generate DVD menus and such.
2) Encoder quality. I'm in the semiconductor business, and I know that there there can be large differences in encoder quality. I would want the best quality possible from NTSC. Do the various recorders have different quality encoders? (I realize there are setting for different quality levels. What I'm asking is "does the encoder chip quality vary with brand or generation of encoder chip?"
thanks...joe
