They are coming to my house this weekend to add an amplifier they said it could be signal strengh, Bad wiring in the house or bad spliters. If you can get an engineer on the line they can test the signal strengh to each box. They said theses boxes when they get a week signal the box takes them as errors when there are lot of errors in the buffer the box reboots its self to clear them
i will let you know if the amplifier works
I can't stand this new box. Can someone tell me why they bothered with this even? The box before this was fine.
Also, wtf is up with the blue button whenever you go to a HBO channel? It seems like it will give you some sort of special info about what you're watching but all it does is bring me to a different HBO channel. So annoying

Try recording house or any other prime time fox shows and see what it does. :)

Well Time Warner sent three techs to my house (two where rookies it seems)
here is what i have I have
4 regular TV's just getting basic cable
1 HD TV with a 8300HDC
1 regular TV with a Pioner digital cable box
plus road runner and digital phone
I went and got a phillips 47 inch LCD to replace the regular TV with the Pioner box
to quickly refresh my problem i went through 4 8300HDC boxes in 3 days and after a week the 4th box was rebooting all the time
Well they checked the signal strengh added a new outlet for my new TV then they added an amplifier.
After all was done and touch wood its only been 24 hours everything is perfect the picture on the 47 inch is great my 20 inch HD is great.
they gave me a 8300HD box (DVR) with the new tv the tech said he does not want to carry the 8300HDC as there to much trouble to activate
one thing i did notice is that the 8300HD box still has passport on it so i am sure one day it will be upgraded to Navigator.
To sum it all up i guess me writing to the head of Time warner LA south worked wonders they have even had someone from his office call me to follow up..
If anyone is having reboots and and problems have them check your signal strengh .. also if you go to channel 199 you can see it your self

When I lived in Manhattan I had this same box for two years with no issues, however it wasn't running ocap. I move to Brooklyn, and I am going through a box a week.
I also have this other issue, with it connected via hdmi, I have to turn my tv on first, count to three, then turn the box on before it will support the image. On component it is fine. My tv is a year old and has never had any issues, so I guess the question is, is this the tv or the new software on the box?

I am still on my first 8300HDC, had it for 3 weeks. Rebooted about 15-20 times in that time. About 80% it was me, the other 20% it was the machine rebooting itself.
I reboot when:
a) it fails to record something it was supposed to
b) it stops responding to remote commands
c) it is unable to tune any channels' pictures (though the sound and PIP works!)
d) I want to be sure something is recorded- yes, I've started preventative rebooting, just in case.
Is this a common problem? I asked the rep this and he was noncommittal. I asked if there was another model HD DVR I could have, and he said no. Have an appt for Sat to have them come replace it.
Also considering going back to Tivo and upgrading to HD Tivo. Significant extra cost, but... rather have a dvr that actually records!!

I just wanted to share the horror of having an HD Box. Since August I have gone through 4 HD Boxes and will be getting my 5th this week. I have had OCAP and non-OCAP boxes. With the non-OCAP, I would get the message telling me to use component hook up because the HDMI was not supported, this would occur of the TV and BOX did not sync up in the right order, so I would have to turn the TV off and then back on. The OCAP boxes just stop working, I reboot my box by unplugging or by using the buttons on the front at least 5 times a day. Every day I wake up to first turn the box on, it's dead, time is shown and power light, but no picture or sound, channel number does not come up when you change channel. Sometimes I have to reboot 4 times to get things working and then 6 hours later, you go to change the channel and loose everything. Very painful. I have had 4 techs come to the house throughout this time and everytime all signals are good to go, better than most. I have an amplifier on the house and over the air HD channels on my TVs without a box come in great. So, I agree signal strength is good, but the 8300HDC box with OCAP & Mystro is seriously flawed. Any suggestions on tackling this problem would be appreicated.
My set up is HDMI from box to TV, component from box to AMP, eSATA connected to a WD DVR Extender, fiber optic audio to amp.
I have tried to just use component cables and removed HDMI from OCAP to see if this was causing the issue and no dice, still stops working randomly.

I picked up my OCap box last Thursday...on Friday my phone modem for the TW phone stopped working...it was the new cable box...just got my phone working today Tuesday....apparently if you don't tell the people at the TW office that you have TW phone service something happens when they initialize the box to put it above the phone modem and it makes the phone modem stop working...as for the Ocap box....it makes noise all night...I have to unplug it...my CW station 405 is black and will not come in....it has one thing that my passport box did not have...it gives you the percentage of time left on to record...which is nice but thats it...it takes forever to change a channel...I don't hate it but I soon will....I am going to watch the one program I have recorded on it and then it is going back to TW where I will beg them to give me a passport box...if not I will make do....by the way has anyone had their box power down so that it actually turns off...as I mentioned before my passport box would do that...just asking...
