I have been recording HD channels using the GX355. I know it's not going to be HD but it still gives me an excellent picture. The only problem is that the recording doesn't fill up the screen. It adds the black bars at the bottom and top.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to eliminate them do that I don't have to use the zoom to get the picture correct?
Thanks

check your sony 355 record menu, see if there are options for 16x9/4x3 record. if so make sure its set for 16x9.
i used to have scientific/atlanta 8000hd; for making dvds of down rezzed hd content, at bottom right of remote there was button for 'normal','squeeze', 'zoom' output modes, if u have this button/options, choose 'sqeeze'. it will send squeezed image to dvd recorder and when played back on widescreen tv will be stretched back out w no black bars.
if both your sony and the 3250hd have above facilities u may be all set, if not i dont know....
good luck! also if above works, try using s video cable instead of rca, should make for a little better pq.

you may have to reset stb from hd to sd, check manual, before u can output downrezzed hd thru s vid.
even if 355 doesnt allow record menu change, as long as image is squeezed coming out of stb, then 355 will capture it and play it back correctly on widescreen tv but will be vertically stretched if u play on reg 4x3 tv.
this is based on my experience w sa8000hd and your sa 3250hd may be different.:D
