Has anyone heard anything solid on this? Will they discontinue making SD Players and DVD in favor of HD Players? I'm being asked my less technical friends of mine, and I can't find much on the internet. This is where I come for all my technical questions, so hopefully someone has a deeper technical understand on this particular question than myself. Thanks Guys!

Personally I think standard DVD players will be around for awhile. Look how long VCR's have been around. I think you still can get them at stores if you look hard enough. So I wouldn't be too worried in the near future.
There is no way they will stop making SD DVD players anytime soon.

There's a better chance that there won't be any HD-DVD or Blu-ray players made after 2009 than SD DVD players not being made. :)

I think you'll see SD players until there is only one HD format, and also the price point drops. You can get SD player for well under $100 and decent upconverting players for $100. Until the SOLE HD format hits those proces points there will always be a market (and someone willing to build and sell to it) for SD players.
