shadowrage 12-02-07, 01:37 AM I totally skipped this series.
Do not watch Samurai Champloo before watching this.
I think Boondocks would be pretty cool. That show has the real 'Afro Samurais'.
On the plus side. The more animation on BD the better.
I couldn't get through two minutes of this show when I caught an ep on Spike. I just can't watch anime with English voice actors, OA or not.
shadowrage 12-02-07, 01:47 AM GiTS is the only thing I can watch with English voices.
Even then if I can choose. I like the Japanese more.
AS felt 'American'. Like they were pandering to an audience. you cant 'americanize' anime and expect anime fans to like it.
gubarenko 12-02-07, 07:36 AM i liked AfroSamurai. it was very interesting.own director's cut dvd.
clear31 02-22-08, 11:56 AM anybody get this???????
I have it on order but it hasn't shipped yet.
Steelhead87 02-22-08, 12:06 PM It really is a fantastic blend of incorporating current technology (weapons/cell phones etc) with the Japanese lifestyle. That is what made it so interesting to me. Watching combat that involved a bazooka and a sword really adds new wrinkles.
By the by, the RZA original score and soundtrack amplify mood and follows the themes within the movie. Not to mention Samuel L's voice characterization.
I will double-dip on this one and other select anime.
Any scope on other release dates?
Ozymandis 02-22-08, 02:20 PM I'm going to get this. The voices are great IMO and the score is about as good as Samurai Champloo. Just wish they'd start putting series like Samurai Champloo out on BR already :(
genfuyung 02-22-08, 03:58 PM Not showing up on Netflix...I hate netflix
raoul_duke 02-22-08, 06:50 PM Not the Dir Cut, censored tv version. No sale.
Tony has it now:

paul nyc 02-28-08, 12:21 PM Spoke to Tony. It's the theatrical cut, not director's. Damn
watsonte 03-24-08, 08:09 PM Spoke to Tony. It's the theatrical cut, not director's. Damn
What are the major differences between the two. I have not seen this movie but it looks fairly interesting.
Any reason not to pick up the version offered at Xploited Cinema?
SneakerPimp 05-02-08, 02:09 PM Looks like there's gonna be a US release with the director's cut soon:
It's been almost a year since Funimation released the DVD versions of Samuel L. Jackson's animated mini-series, Afro Samurai. Now we have word that the Director's Cut version of this release is coming to Blu-ray Disc later this year!
Details weren't made available yet, but in a very early heads-up sent to Canadian retailers, a distributor advertisement advised them not to miss upcoming info about a Blu-ray Disc release of Afro Samurai - Director's Cut. The release date given (which is subject to change, and could *maybe* turn out to be different in the USA) is August 26th. This kind of early advice did not include pricing, box art or extras; it could still possibly be weeks before we see all of that. But stay tuned and we'll bring that info to you just as soon as we can!

This one has Lucy Liu, and Mark Hamill (Star Wars) in it.
I'm sure AFRO SAMURAI: RESURRECTION will hit Blu-ray eventually.

Cowboy Bebop and Princess Mononoke actually sound better in English to me. They're the exceptions to the rule, however.
