View Full Version : Looking for bright PJ up to 15k

I'm trying to replace an old (10+ years) CRT PJ with something more modern. It's 4x3, and time to go 16x9/hi-def.

The biggest issue is light - the room isn't a dedicated theater and has doors and windows on the South wall with no real light control, which is behind the PJ. Primary seating is about 14' from the screen, which is 8' wide. I have no expectation that daytime viewing would ever look great, but I want to at least make it watchable for a few more hours in the day, so I definitely want something bright - no idea how many lumens that means.

I'd also prefer to have something that can be mounted *above* the top of the screen, so a lens shift >50% or possibly a fixed offset that's under 25% would be a big plus. 1080P would be nice, but I'm willing to trade pixels for lumens and PQ.

At the very low end, I was looking at a Panny AE2000/AX200 - relatively cheap way to try a new PJ and low risk if it doesn't work.

At the high end, possibly a Digital Projection iVision 30-1080P, though that would probably go over the 15k limit.

My primary candidate has been the Infocus 777 until I realized I misunderstood the specs. While it looks like it *can* be mounted above the screen, it's not suggested. Just worried the screen would have to be too high to accomodate it or any other PJ with a shift <=50%.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Scott
