I have a 6 year old Loewe DVD player that manifests the following problem.
It will play normally for 3 mins or so, then it freezes and the chapter numbers count all the way to the end and then it goes into stop mode.
Is this a faulty transport or perhaps an electronics malfunction.
Should I bother getting it fixed or just buy a new player.
Thanks.

Any 6 year old DVD player should be replaced. :) What display? Also, I see it took you a while for your first post. :)

I decided to look inside the player one last time to see if maybe, just maybe I missed something, before I close it it up and toss it away.
To my amazement I noticed that the main connector going to the transport and main board underneath from the power supply was slightly askew. It was just quite not right, so I pulled it out and re-inserted it properly. An unexpected find, now it sat straight and narrow. To my utter surprise and joy this solved the problem. The player has worked without incident ever since. To think I had planned that night to order online, the Oppo 870 HD unit and toss away as it panned out a perfectly good player. The power supply now makes perfect sense why I had the problem and why it kept cutting out and stopping. In any case, a happy ending to unnecessary expenditure and adding further to landfill.
