Todays national quadruple header has been advertised as on FSN HD. Kansas/USC is playing right now and on my local FSN 649-1, it is a blank screen and says To be announced. Channels 94, 96 and 97 all have the games listed or as upcoming but also have blank screens. Channel 97 has the current game thats on now but is giving me a extention 721 to call. (channel not purchased) are these for PPV only? Makes no sense.

Anybody get these games with your RSN or any of the channels listed?

Yes, I do subscribe to the sports pack. I found that game on another HD sports channel somewhere, can't remember which one, I think it might have been FSN Pacific, but not positive about that.

Edit: I guess it was Prime Ticket HD, I remember it had a P in the call letters, but I guess it was Prime Ticket, not sure there is a Pacific. :)

Here is the response I received about this:

Thank you for writing. I'm very sorry you were not able to view your favorite teams in HD on Sunday. I can certainly understand your concerns. I reviewed the schedules for Sunday and I reviewed the programming on FSN Arizona. It appears we did not broadcast any games in HD in your area. Please keep in mind that if games are broadcast in HD they will appear on channel 649-1 or channel 94 or 95. Unfortunately, we do not have the rights to broadcast all games in HD even if they are broadcast in HD from the provider.

We offer Regional Sports Networks (RSNs) from across the nation, which show professional, college, and both domestic and international amateur sports (such as soccer, tennis, boxing, golf, rugby, winter sports, etc.), as well as coaches shows and other specialized programming.

Based on your zip code, you have been assigned FSN Arizona as your local RSN. You are authorized to view the pro and college games shown on that channel. Due to contractual broadcast rights between the networks and the leagues, those who live outside of your area are not authorized to view the same games.

For example, when a network such as MSG purchases the rights from the NBA to broadcast a Knicks game, they pay a fee and broadcast it to the New York City market only. Therefore, we can only allow customers within that market to view the pro games on that channel. When a national network such as TNT broadcasts an NBA game, they have paid a significantly higher fee because they are broadcasting to the entire nation. The fee is much higher due to the advertisement potential.

Because of fans like you who have interest in viewing teams from outside of your home market, the leagues have created professional sports subscriptions such as the NBA LEAGUE PASS and NFL SUNDAY TICKET.

Please understand that these restrictions are placed upon us. Please visit our web site at directv.com/blackouts if you have additional questions about sports blackouts.

Thank you again for writing. I appreciate your patience and understanding and I hope this answers your concerns.

Sincerely,

Andrea F. - U7507

Still makes no sense to me. They were national games, not regional. Everyone should have received them.

I remember when Barry Bonds hit his I think 756th homer (I could be wrong about that) or whatever one broke Hank Aaron's record, those in the DC area couldn't watch in HD because ESPN2HD's coverage was blacked out for MASN's SD-only coverage. (MASN is our local RSN.)

The question is: Were the blacked-out games on FSN Arizona? If so, then the blackouts make complete sense. If they weren't, then I don't get it, yet.

indeed no blackouts on the sd side of FSN AZ. My only guess is that maybe the "cant show all HD" isnt referring to the rights to the game but maybe the bandwidth? and becuase they wont show the game on all RSN sub channels. (dozens of the same game with different commericals) they have one channel set up for nationally that only sports pack subs can receive. local advertisers would get screwed fans could just turn into the national HD feed on 97 and no see those local ads.

that is my only guess.

I always get the "Not available in your area" for FSN's broadcast of the Atlanta Hawks games and I'm 250 miles away. I don't understand D* sometimes. :(
