I've seen the first 1/2 of Hannibal Rising on HD DVD. I won't finish it until tomorrow night but I want to post a review so far.

PQ:

Some scenes look absolutely fantastic. The PQ at some points is so great that it could be reference material to show off your system to friends and family. Other scenes, however, have some static in the shots. So overall it's kind of hit or miss but for the most part I'm very impressed.

AQ:

The audio is great. I've only got a 5.1 setup but it's a $3,500 system and the audio sounded great. Pretty deep bass in scenes that warrant it and overall just pretty good. Nothing too spectacular but it's defninitely a solid audio track.

MQ:

The movie, so far, is very interesting. The movie is much darker than I expected it to be but it's still decent. The directing and acting are very impressive but the story has some scenes that just seem a little dragged out.

Other comments:

This Polish HD-DVD has two discs but I haven't tossed the second one in yet. I would recommend you pick up this import HD-DVD if you have interest in the movie as it's a very good quality release overall.

Looking forward to your more in-depth review. What's on the second disc?

GamerGuyX:

The menus are easy to navigate, yes. The menus look gorgeous and in all honesty the menus impressed me more than most HD-DVD menus. Sadly, though, they're in Polish.

eapleitez:

Here's what Xploited says is on that second disc:

Please note there is also a 2nd DVD included. This is a Standard Defintion PAL Region 2 DVD which includes 142 Mins of extras.

FYI: The second disc only has an English 2.0 track according to the back of the case.

Again, if you have interest in this movie I'd pick up this release from Xploited. Some of the scenes that could be used as reference material are gritty-looking war scenes from the first 1/2 of the movie with lots of action.

I read the book and saw the movie. I enjoyed both. Neither was what I expected.

This is perhaps the only movie I have seen that follows the book virtually word-for-word.

Wasn't there already a review of this here and it's in the wrong aspect ratio?

Yes, the HD DVD is 1.78:1 and the OAR is 2.35:1.

I just got this in the mail today, I'll be sure to give my input once I get my new display next week. :)

It's not OAR? Moving along then...

Yes, extremely lame when J6P gets OAR on the standard DVD release, but HD DVD gets the shaft.

I guess enthusiasts care less about OAR than the average consumer...
