I have my Comcast DVR (Moto 6412) in a pretty tight spot because of the cabinet that I have it in. It was getting pretty hot, so I installed a small AC fan that I bought at radio shack. It does a nice job of keeping the unit cool. I even made two holes in the back of the cabinet where the fan is for air flow. It's been running now for about 2 months, and I have noticed that it has gotten much louder. The whine it produces makes watching TV with the cabinet doors open impossible. Does anyone have any recommendations on a small cooling fan that is very quiet? Even with the doors closed, it is too loud at this point. Thanks for any recommendations!

Dust it or replace it?

Thanks. Looks like these are all USB or PS2 powered. Was looking for something that runs on good old fashioned AC. Thanks for your response!

I have one for my receiver where I just took a AC/DC wall wart and a PC fan (they make very quiet ones) and spliced the wires together. If your box has an AC outlet, you can hook it up there and have it kick on when the box is turned on. They can move quite a bit of air, too.

Whatever you do, make sure you don't damage the DVR by burning it out. These boxes do produce a lot of heat, and require a lot of ventalation. These boxes are like computers with processors, hard drives, and memory chips. If a customer ends up damaging cable equipment, they can be charged for the cost of a new one. DVR's can run several hundreds of dollars. I'm not trying to scare you. I just want to make you aware of "what could happen".
