I know Lost being ABC and all is going to be Blue-ray exclusive in the US. Any idea if it will be available for import in HD DVD? I looked at a few places but couldn't find anything

Thanks!

What network the series airs on is irrelevant. The show is produced by Disney, and will be Blu-ray exclusive.

exactly. House is shown on Fox, but Distributed by Universal. If it were to be on HDM it would be HD DVD only.

I had just assumed since Disney owns ABC (or vice versa) that it would be blu-ray only at least in the US

Since I haven't even gotten my HD DVD player yet (x-mas) I haven't really looked into import HD DVD's, (only know that Disney movies aren't available in HD DVD anywhere

That would be interesting. Would FOX run ads for HOUSE HD DVD sets? Guessing they have little if any interest in DVD sales of that show (other than it possibly goosing up ratings, maybe).

You need to look at the production company, not the network. As mentioned above, a show like 'House' is produced by Universal but airs on Fox. At the same time, Fox produces many shows aired on the networks owned by other studios.

In the case of 'Lost', the show is produced by Disney and airs on ABC, which happens to be owned by Disney. But if ABC had passed on the pilot it could just as easily be airing on NBC or CBS right now. Yet the home video rights would still be owned by Disney.

Fox airs ads for whatever they're paid to air ads for.

Yes, I know. Was trying to be slightly sarcastic ;) & failed miserably.

Would bet that a Sony-owned network would never run HD DVD ads, though.;)

True about the network that runs a show vs who "owns" it. SCRUBS airs on NBC, but is owned by Disney essentially (ABC/Buena Vista) and was going to burn off it's last season on ABC if the Peacock didn't pick it up this year.

Bad example, though, since SCRUBS is the last network scripted show to NOT be shot in HD. So no HD set in either format will come about there.

Although this does happen with lots of shows, it wouldn't have happened with Lost because it took an unusual path to television. ABC owned the concept of the show from the beginning. ABC executives forwarded the show's concept to various Hollywood agents hoping to find someone interested in producing it. The only one interested was Aaron Spelling who hired a writer to come up with a pilot script. ABC hated it and sent it back. Spelling came back with rewrite which they hated even more.

ABC executives still believed in the show's concept so they teamed J.J. Abrams with Damon Lindelof to come up with some spooky new ideas for the show. ABC liked them a lot but by then it was too late for them to write a pilot. ABC was worried that Abrams and Lindelof would lose interest in the project so they did something unheard of: they approved their show with no pilot and no a script for one.

There was literally no pilot for ABC to pass on. In fact they gave the show the green light without even a script for a pilot! The pilot was so expensive ABC had no choice but air it even if they didn't like it.

I have found that sarcasm does not travel well over the internet. I think an entire generation is going to loose the art of sarcasm.

I was a little confused that the shrek christmas special, which had to be done by dreamworks, was shown on a network owned by Disney(ABC.) i thought it would be on NBC. But all i can say is i just wish LOST could be on hd-dvd as well. or that i had enough money to get a PS3 or standalone player.

My wife would enjoy the House series if released on HD DVD :)
