hi all, i hope someone can help as i think my DLink DSM 520 is pooched!

I've had this box for just over a year and have been really really pleased with it. i think its a spectacular product. i had it set up Wireless to my home network and am running Windows Media Connect w/ Media Player 9 on my WinXP SP2 "server". i do not have installed any DLink server software.

the 520 came to me new in the box, with installed firmware 1.02. this past weekend i reconfigured my hardware placement, and was able to hard wire the 520 to the network instead of using the wireless. after changing the network connection type in setup > network (on the 520) i was prompted to install a firmware upgrade. I chose yes... perhaps i was wrong :(

the downloading and updating screens flashed over the screen that informed me what i was upgrading to, so i was not able to see the firmware version that was being installed. the firmware downloaded and installed. at 100% installation the 520 tried to reboot. now, i get as far as the power light coming on. no further. no welcome screen, nothing.

i have a call in to DLink support. 1st level ran thru the usual; hard reset, unplugging for a few minutes etc. they created a case number and bumped it up to 2nd level, Mon - Fri 9-9 support, but i have not heard from them yet.

any suggestions? any questions? can i downgrade the firmware via USB? do i need to install the Dlink Server software on my PC as Media Connect has been phased out? any help would be appreciated, as i said this was a great product up until now.

thanx for your time
marc.

One thing I would try is to insure it's using the output method you have it setup for, the update may have made it default to composite, just hit your input button on the remote until you see some activity, or try to hook it up via composite to see if it gets a picture.

yes, i will try that as soon as i get home. currently it is hooked up via HDMI only. i will attach via another input and see if that works. i'm scared tho, as the activity light does not come on, only power, but perhaps there is a prompt i am not seeing. wish me luck and thanx for replying, i appreciate the input.

I'm considering to upgrade the firmware from 1.04 to 1.05, and would like to know if there is good reason to do so.
I have occaisional freezes when playing MP3 music over wireless network. video plays fine so far.
what bugs are fixed by 1.05 ?

when I did, I pretty much played with the active tv feature all day. Pretty cool. that night, though, I went to play an xvid movie and it tells me that the file type is no longer supported. Anyone else have that happen? I don't think that it happened after the uprade, but instead after I installed the Active TV server software.
