Something interesting I have kv-30hs420 crt tv and bought it on craiglist in local city here. So to make a long story short i reseted the mid nvm data in the service menu and as you guys know its basically unusable now. So i called SONY and lady said its under warranty still it can be repaired free.

So she gave me a sears 800 number so I called and made a appointment for the dec 18. She said have a bill of sale ready incase the tech wants to see it. Now does this sound to good to be true or what. The guy that comes can really fix the tv in the service menu or is he just like a 1st level tech and probrably will have it taken to a repair shop? How does this work?

If you are lucky, the guy will probably just pull out a service manual and reset all the SM settings to default values and call it good. If you are unlucky, the guy will make a few phone calls and throw his hands up and say there is nothing he can do and leave, or perhaps give you some kind of run around.

I hope I'm wrong, but I have not heard of too many of these guy who know very much.

Hmm how you say that I do have the service manual and it does have a bunch of service menu settings, are those the defaults that need to be inputed to make the tv work now? If so theres some abbreveations i dont understand what settings i need for this tv?

If you have a service manual it will have the "default" values for each item. This will not make the set perfect, but it is a good starting point, and you should end up with something at least close to watchable. From there, you *might* be able to tweak it a bit.

I don't know for sure though, since I have never actually tried taking a TV from "factory newborn" state to a "watchable" state. It may very well be that you'll need to have professional instruments to adjust certain things. It's gonna be a huge undertaking whoever ends up doing it.

It does not matter whether you know what the setting does, just adjust it to the default value listed in the service manual (assuming you have one, it was not clear to me whether you had one or not).

However, why don't you wait and see what the service tech does first. Maybe you'll actually get a good one.

Never mind sony called me and canceled the tech the tv isnt under warranty its to old already it was released in 04.

So Yes i do have the service manua,l I did call couple of local tv reaprs shops and interesting the average fix rate for this is between 40-80 dollars. Now that sound cheap to get it working does that sound right to you?

Why does it cost like 250.00 to calibrate a working tv, and costs less to fix a broken non usuable tv?
Thanks......

What I mean about I dont understand some terms in the settings of the manual look at this: NRMD=0, NRMD=1, NRMD=2, etc etc, heres more like under the heading of VIVID, PRO, STANDARD, MOVIE theres RF, CV/YC

theres more like TWIN, V5/V6, 1080VCOMP, TWIn FREEZE, FAVORITES, INDEX....

lol now what did you do! Tell the tech to break your remote so you can't go into service mode ever again :P
