My grandfather is needing a new TV desperately. His 60" rear-projection TV from 7 years ago is hosed. The screen has turned yellow and very blurry. It looks like you have glaucoma or something. I will tell you, the TV is in direct sunlight almost all day long. He wants a new 60" TV, but doesn't want the same thing to happen to it. I'm trying to talk him into a plasma, but a 60" 1080p plasma is a little out of his price range. As far as another projection TV goes, I like the Sony SXRD KDS-60A3000. We just don't want the same thing to happen to this new TV. Please answer this question for me, nobody else knows anything.

His TV is probably out of adjustment; not sunburned; or maybe a large dose of cigar smoke??
I hear plasmas don't like direct sunlight on their phosphor, though, as a concession.

7 years is pretty good. There is no display you can assure won't have issues after 7 years.

I'll be happy to get even 5 years out of my RP. That's about how long RPs are expected to last, and the way technology is advancing anything you buy today will be out of date and overdue for replacement long before that anyway. The good news however is they are getting much cheaper. A killer 60 inch RP is 2G or less today.
