View Full Version : Here's something you don't see every day: Warner pushing both formats in ad
Baccusboy 12-04-07, 02:44 AM Warner seems to be quite loyal to both formats in South Korea.
Note that the players you see here are all that can be purchased in Korea. I scoured the electronics market yesterday looking for a Toshiba standalone, but couldn't find one. I was quite sad, as I want to pick up an A2, or even a used A1.
Here is a fold-out advertisment I picked up yesterday at a store selling both:

Also note that the Matrix Trilogy is on the 2008 release calender for HD DVD, but not for Blu Ray!
Baccusboy 12-04-07, 03:12 AM Well, that's sad news for us in Korea, but not anywhere else. There are lots of titles we don't have. We've got less than 30 in either format now, from what I've seen.
Its a dual format world. :D
SirDrexl 12-04-07, 06:14 AM Are we FINALLY going to get The Shawshank Redemption? Please let it be so.
Mike Lindberg 12-04-07, 09:45 AM Excellent. Some more local HD DVD titles. Did you see any of these new Warners for sale yet? It also looks like the BH-200 is coming out in Korea as well. I'll probably go dual format by picking that up. I hope it comes with a lower price tag than what the BH-100 is going for still.
Interesting that Swordfish and Firewall aren't going to be sold on HD DVD, though. Not that I'd be missing anything.
kevivoe 12-04-07, 09:54 AM First it was Sony then Toshiba and now it's Warner prolonging the format war.
papi4baby 12-04-07, 10:04 AM Also note that the Matrix Trilogy is on the 2008 release calender for HD DVD, but not for Blu Ray!
Rub it in why dont cha :D. But those releases are about a year behind compare to NA, so i would not use that to compare what could be coming next year.

When the BDA gets their act together and Profile 1.1 has become truly standard, you will see Warner release The Matrix on BD.
ShagMan 12-04-07, 11:22 AM Firewall and Swordfish are missing for HD-DVD... not like they're either one be missed, but thought that was interesting!

I decided about 12 hours ago this was my favorite movie. That would be welcome indeed.
Baccusboy 12-04-07, 08:26 PM Still trying to figure out a way to get a Toshiba player here. I scoured the stores all over Yongsan, and found nothing.
As Mike knows, this is what the LG dual-format costs here:
http://www.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/neo_goods/goods.asp?goodscode=121328486&GoodsSale=Y&jaehuid=200001172
That's about $1500.
Looks like I'm going to have to try to get the family to sneak an A2 or A3 over here in luggage!

An option would be to import one from Hong Kong. The prices are cheaper than anything in Korea, plus they are 220 volt and region 3, which may be a bonus.
http://www.universal88.com/dvd.htm About $500 US.

When does your family take a trip? :p
