Received a surprisingly big package from France today!

Pictured here next to normal size HD DVD:

This Limited Collector's Edition includes the following:
- HD DVD (movie with extras including English subtitles)
- DVD (more extras)
- CD (soundtrack)
- 2008 Calendar
- Photo book of the movie (144 pages)

Movie is reported to be 2h:20min VC-1 encoded, 16/9 Cinemascope.

I received mine as well! Did you get in on the pricing error for 8.35 euros?

Was very happy to see english subtitles which is unusual for a French release. I had no idea it was so large until it came.

In the US this title was known as "Ma Vie en Rose" and there is another thread about it so might be a worthy merger if some mods are about.

Where did you folks order it from? I would love to get a copy here in NJ as well.

Thanks

I ordered it from Amazon France. It was priced at 10 euros rather than 50 for about a day. I was surprised they actually sent it. The standard edition without all the pretty stuff is about 25 euros. Of note, the book is in French only. My copy actually has the cover of the book mounted upside down when compared to the pages inside. Here are some pictures of the contents:

Yes, www.amazon.fr has it. You can use your amazon.com info to log in.
I've used them twice now. Both times it took about 2 weeks with basic shipping. Which is better then amazon.coms basic shipping which I don't get.

I will be ordering again if the movie I want comes out.

I received my copy a couple of days ago. It was for my wife who loved this movie. It's actually a really great movie with wonderful acting. If you haven't seen it yet, I would highly recommend it.

I watched the movie last night. The PQ aspects really shined, the film looks gorgeous with very beatiful cinematography and sets and glowing richly saturated colours. The reds, blacks and various hues of gold are very strong especially in darker scenes and they always look just right and very artistic. I would definitely give this a 4.5 or 5 for PQ myself. It's actually also excellent demo material, looks more artistic and colorful than most movies. The sharpness and level of detail is great as well. AQ was excellent too but in my setup I can only utilize up to 1.5 mbps DTS, but that sounded very good.

The movie itself has been so beatifully shot that one can admire every shot as a beatiful painting or art photograph. The movie tells the story of Edith Piaf from 5 year old until her death, but not so much in chronological order. The acting is great, all actors who play Edit at her various ages are really excellent. There's not so much of continuous storyline or plot though, it's more about the various hardships and triumphs along her way and pretty much all the scenes are centering on her at various ages. The movie is mainly carried by the great visuals, music and the great acting. Overall I liked it quite much.

The main disc has the trailer for the movie in full HD (looks great) and also has some interesting web enabled extras. The downloadable content includes some magazine articles about the movie that could be easy enough to read through on the screen as they can be zoomed well and there is also something that looks like a screenplay in the downloadable materials. There was no account creation or login procedure needed when accessing the online contents, just needed to confirm that you want to connect to the internet. The problem for me with the extras is that everything is in French so I can't really read it with my ancient 2-year elementary school French studies as base.

The DVD containing more extras is PAL and region 2, and the contents on it have French audio without any subtitles.

Definitely recommended, either this version or the standard HD DVD release. This version is of course a bit more expensive (49.99 EUR) while the standard version is 29.99 EUR. I got this version cheap because of a pricing mistake in Amazon France early on, I paid 8.35 EUR for it + shipping. I was positively amazed that Amazon France honored that price. If it were not for the pricing mistake I would have probably ordered the normal version as I'm not a big collector of special box sets normally and I don't have much space for storing them. Anyway, I'm very impressed with this set and it's not that expensive even at normal price considering all the nice content and the great quality of the disc!

Holy Thread Resurrection! Good job on the "search" before posting. :)

I remember being able to access all the menus on my copy on my XA2 as I recall going back & forth between the TrueHD & DTS0HD audio to decide which I liked better. But I always just use the "subtitles" button on the remote to manage subtitles. Just press the subtitles button on the remote, and message will pop up prompting you to use the right toggle button > to turn subs off & on.

Kannisto

I don't remember how I enabled the English subs when I watched it but I didn't have any problem getting them enabled. My player is HD-XF2 (equivalent of HD-A2). I'll check again how to enable them. CochiseGuy's advice should work OK as well.

I can't access the English subtitles from the menu or by using the subtitle button on the remote. I've had this happen with one or two other French HD-DVDs...I guess it's a problem with the Samsung 5000. Just saw that the title has been released on Blu-ray; might have better luck with it...

Thanks, all!

On my Toshiba stand-alones I can turn them on from the menu:

Versions sub-menu => Sous-Titres: Anglais

They work OK on both my RD-A301 and HD-XF2. For some reason I can't get this disc to load at all on my LG PC drive (GGW-H20N).

The subs are actually kind of advanced and must have been implemented with HDi, they can be positioned and made smaller/bigger using the A and B keys on the remote. It could be some kind of HDi compatibility problem on the Samsung player I guess. Should work on Toshiba players though.

Do you pick english or français when you first enter the disc. As you want english to enable the english subs. At the main menu their is an arrow that allows you to repick english or français. Its possible you picked français on another studio cannal disc as it will save setting for all discs.

I don't think that applies to La Mome because it is not a Studio Canal release, but TF1. I've never seen an English/Français selection menu on this release.

A lot!

Xploited still has it for ... err... crap! It's out of print!

I might just have to import this one. Will probably be $60 US. I've wanted to see it ever since the Oscars!

Amazon.fr has it for EUR 25,99 which works out to roughly $40.41 US.

There are 2 versions, this special limited edition box and the regular version. I think the regular version is still available here and there and the 29 EUR is probably the price for that one. Original MRSP price for the special box version was 50 EUR.

The deluxe box is one of the highlights HD DVD has / had to offer to us collectors. Reminds me of the good old Laserdisc times. While the standard box is still available, stocks of the limited edition seem to be depleted now, I had to re-import my copy from the US :(

Trying to navigate http://www.pixmania.co.uk/ and find HD DVD's. I only see hardware--no software. Where is it?

Thanks in advance.

It was available at pixmania.com. My first post so don't think I can post links, but is showing as out of stock and if you click on the link for the product it takes you back to the front page - too late!

They shipped it I just had to skype a call out to them, and they have a guy there that speaks english to take orders but that was a while back.

Fnac.com has just shipped my cousin’s copy for 110.00 US dollars. I just got off the phone with him and he literally jumped out of his socks! He kept saying thank you but the real thanks goes to kannisto for posting this thread and letting everyone know how special this set really is.

Sometimes I feel so dumb when filling out applications from different country’s fnac.com has the listing for the US but I totally missed it and that’s what kind of screwed up the original order. They have it listed as indisponible and I don’t know if they will get anymore in. I can’t believe they only had one copy left but since it is out of print not surprising.

Actually finding the collector set isn't so bad it's getting someone or someplace to ship out of France is the Bee-otch There is one guy on Amazon selling his but he won't ship to the USA same listing on priceminister. I also checked ebay.fr and there are no listings for the HD collector set there either. Fnac.com still has it listed as indisponible so maybe it really was the last copy.
I'll keep an eye out for you satblaster, but the listings are getting pretty thin as the days go by and it seems more and more European outlets are just getting rid of HD DVD stock completely.:o

Are you sure? I saw a German flag and they take paypal call me crazy but I ordered another copy using paypal. It takes you to the paypal.fr site and has every country listed. Once I logged on it took me back to my account in the US. I paid for it and received a confirmation receipt so we'll see what actually happens.

But I'm pretty sure I saw your flag there on the site and there was no US flag thats for sure. Try it using paypal you never know about these things until the final trans. If it flys great... if not oh well.. at least you tried.:o If it ships to me then I know they will ship to you no doubt about that.
