View Full Version : Jim Nantz comment
Has anyone noticed that He seems super bored during the broadcasts the last 3-4 months? The pauses in his play by play sentences are getting longer and longer. What has caused this ?I wonder if his health is ok,personal problems,or burnout. Thanks for any other opinions.

Was he talking about HDTV programming when he sounded bored? :D
mikemikeb 12-05-07, 09:04 AM Hopefully it's "just burnout". Even if it's that, if this is really a problem (haven't noticed), hopefully it'll go away very soon.

Well, I really like Nantz, maybe he's just getting out of the way of the game. It's Simms that wears me down. "He got eeem!"

You mean Kermit? ;)
JMCecil 12-05-07, 05:21 PM The NFL network coverage is horrible. I never thought I would think anyone could be worse than NBC. I stand corrected.........by a wide margin. The NFL Network booth crew sucks, the sideline reporting sucks, the sound sucks, the studio guys suck, etc.... The only good thing is the picture. I actually had to turn the audio off for the 2nd half of the Dallas game and listen to tunes while watching the game. I couldn't stand it anymore.

Aside from the crappy PQ, what's so bad about NBC?
ccotenj 12-05-07, 06:04 PM i think those couple years that nantz spent with lanny wadkins rotted his brain... :p he hasn't been the same since...
honestly, he's slipping... he's been slipping on golf as well... maybe he needs a sabbatical... go write a book or something...

You may be smiling, but I'm not. How is this about HDTV programming? This thread should be moved.

Find me an SD program that Nantz has done play-by-play on in the last 3-4 months.

Discussing Jim Nantz has nothing to do with HD, it has to do with discussing a person on television.
Can I start a thread in HDTV programming solely about Hayden Panettiere and her Japanese warrant here simply because she is on Heroes, an HD program?
We have other sections to discuss things not related to HDTV programming.
Jeremy W 12-05-07, 07:12 PM This topic probably isn't appropriate for this forum. But nothing is perfect. Lighten up.
spoonman27 12-05-07, 08:31 PM Why does Simms feel compelled to say Nantz's name every other minute? ...You know Jimmm the thing about the Colts is...

You mean like having the sideline reporters yapping their gums with the camera on them while actual plays are going on? You mean like coming back from commercials with play in progress, and at least twice that I've seen this season where a play had completely run and they were on the next down. You mean like constantly attempting to go back to the studio for some lame update to promote some stupid show or other WHILE THE F'N game is going. You mean like in one of the Cleveland games where the camera was stuck on the empty part of the field? What is the fixation with having dumb blonds on the sidelines asking coaches dumb questions? NBC has turned football coverage into a parody of football coverage.
You mean like coming back from commercials with play in progress, and at least twice that I've seen this season where a play had completely run and they were on the next down. This happens to all the broadcast networks, every single one has missed the start of play sometime during their coverage, it happens no more often on NBC as it does on any other network. NBC did mistakenly go to break before an extra point last year on wild card weekend but immediately cut out of the break mid spot.
You mean like constantly attempting to go back to the studio for some lame update to promote some stupid show or other WHILE THE F'N game is going.NBC does not do any in game studio updates as there are no other games going on. The only time they have gone to the studio was last year for a few games, late during games that have already been decided with a two way between Cris Collinsworth and John Madden. They continued to show every play during this conversation. All promos are done on site coming out of break before play starts or in a natural break in action like after a score or change of possession.
You mean like in one of the Cleveland games where the camera was stuck on the empty part of the field?
The last Cleveland game on NBC was December 24, 1995.
What is the fixation with having dumb blonds on the sidelines asking coaches dumb questions?
Andrea Kramer is one of the best sideline reporters around, she is used sparingly and vary rarely does an on camera during the game.
mikemikeb 12-06-07, 01:23 AM You mean Kermit? ;)You think HE sounds like Kermit? Put me in the broadcast booth, and I'll make Gumbel sound like Barry White.

You'd have to sound like a 5-year old girl in order to do that. And even then, I don't know.

You asked for it, you got it, Jeremy W.
Nantz is a good announcer. And hearing fewer comments from the announcer during a game is not a bad thing.
As for the NFL Network coverage, Gumbel could ruin it all by himself, but he has help.
As for NBC: Their picture quality is often gross (but their sound is usually excellent); Costas is a pro; Michaels is an excellent play-by-play announcer; Madden has his moments, even if he tends to state the obvious; Olberman can be funny, but not nearly so much as he thinks (and he suffers a certain derangement); their "green" nonsense was worse than ridiculous; they are less obnoxious about sideline reporting than their competitors. On balance, NBC is tolerable.
