Hey guys,

Just bought an 890 and want to set up the RF extender. I would like to hardwire as much as possible and not use the supplied sticky emitters. I will use a m/m 3.5 mm wire from the extender to my reciever. My HDDVD player (XA2) has a RS232c port on the back.

Can I use a 3.5mm from the extender to the RS232c/serial port on the player? I would like to know before I buy one.

Thanks in advance...

This doesn't directly answer you question, but it may help. I have my main setup in the basement, and control everything there with IR. Upstairs, I have my old Kenwood AV receiver in a closet, which powers the speakers and sub in the front living room. It is controlled with the RF extender. The extender is on top of the receiver, about 2/3 of the way back. It controls the receiver without the emitters, no problem.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think you can hardwire as you describe.

I agree though that the emitters are not needed. I control my receiver and CD player and the emitter sits beside the rear of the receiver not pointing anywhere near the 2 IR ports.

I don't think the rs232 serial port is compatible with the logitec rf extender. It has four 3.5mm (1/8" mono) female jacks. If the xa2 has a 3.5mm female ir port than you can hardwire it. I just set up my 890 pro + extender with my scientific atlanta 8300hd hardwired like i explained. It is working great.
