Can I move the recorded shows to my PC so I can rip a DVD for traveling in the car?

My kid wants 8 hours of the Disney channel for our next road trip.

The TivoHD and Tivo Series3 are the only HDTV DVRs allow you to copy file recordings to your PC.

If you have a Motorola DVR, you can connect that to your PC with a IEEE1394 (Firewire) cable and then record from local channels in realtime as they play. For more information on that, see the thread stickied from the top of the forum.

Using my Dish Network 622 HD DVR I use the s-video out to copy shows to my DVD burner. They are recorded in widescreen with DVD quality picture.

I you were going to use a DVD recorder, I'd get something with a hard drive so that you could edit out the commercials first. It would be fairly easy to do it with DVD-RAM, but I doubt if his car player will play them (unless maybe it's a Panny).
