I have a Mitsubishi WS-55411 which is still a good tv and I hate to buy something new if this tv will still work and give me almost as good a picture as a new LCD or Plasma. Since it's an HD monitor I would like to hook up an HD-A2 to it.
My question is can this be done and get HD quality without buying anything else. What I mean is just buy the DVD player, hook it up via component and it will be in HD?

Yes. However, your TV only has 1 HD component input. I think it also has 2 4801/480p component inputs. If you are currently using the HD input, you would need a component switcher.
You will be able to watch HD DVDs in 10801 via component, but most SD DVDs will only up convert over HDMI or DVI. I think backup copies of SD DVDs will up convert, and other SD DVDs without copy protection will up convert. Most SD DVDs will only show in 480p.

Thanks for the reply...So since I never bought the HD set top box I have all my connections available on the back. So up converting will not work, I'm ok with that as long as it looks as good as it does today which really is not that bad. So if I get this HD DVD player and hook it up in the 1080i component hook ups I would get HD quality from a HD movie and player which I beleive would look even better than my current standard progressive player?

Actual HD from the A2 will look awesome over component. Check out the "Don't Dump Your CRT RPTV" thread here & scope some of Mr Bob's HD DVD BATMAN BEGINS shots. All fed from an A2 over component.

So, in the meantime I am using component and it rocks. Also I did some initial tests between DVI and componenet when I 1st got the A3 (before the DVI board failed) and I didnt notice any difference between the 2.

Awsome...thanks for all the replies....I have now set myself on getting the A2 this week from Walmart if I can get one...and saved myself 2 G's since I will not be getting that much wanted LCD/Plasma...even though I want one real bad. Might as well use the Mitsu as long as it's alive.
